No idea, could be stolen, could be someone pulled a brain fart, Long way up the trail 10 km. Not leaving anytime soon, Rcmp, forestry is the way to go. Insurance will be involved, hopefully it can be removed without too much trail damage?

I'm certainly not going to take the side of the Jeep owner here, as it would be pretty difficult to justify it's rightful presence there!
Howeve!....Before everyone jumps down some dudes throat for a chitty decision, also consider they may be younger and just not that smart! Probably a vehicle that mommy and daddy bought and took er for a chew! Lack of respect for everything and every one involved. But also in the same breath, I remember making a lot of bad decisions while growing up too! A lot of them cost me dearly. And sometimes some of those mistakes turn out to be Longterm.
I'm 34 now, and our oldest boy of 2 is almost 6! I started making smarter and better decisions one the wife became pregnant! New priorities for me!
Anyways, all im saying is im sure all the guys who are saying to nail them to the wall have also made some poor decisions at some point in their life too! None of us are perfect! I'm sure these guys wills pay for this fully! And I hope they do. Lesson learned I hope!

Might not be that bad getting it out, if you can get it back up on the trail, should be able to drive it out the way it came in? 
just thinking! A couple winches, a pile of boards, snatch blocks, may get it turned aroundwill be some trail damage till you can get it up on trail? Leaving it may be a trail hazard and leave it open to further damage and someone getting hurt! I would think insurance will want it out of there? No idea just my thoughts

Jeep was self recovered and driven back out.
The trailhead is clearly marked where you leave the parking lot, the driver(a young girl) said they got lost looking for another location.
There is now a large berm leaving the parking lot so this won't happen again this season, haven't had enough snow until this storm.

Alberta plates. in Cranbrook area. Young girl lost. Plausible. Still unacceptable being that the trail-head was clearly marked. I'm glad to hear that it was self recovered. and that it didn't incur any cost to the club. Hopefully they didn't damage the trail too badly

You don't buy a jeep to stick to the highways, just like we don't buy mountain sleds to ride in Alberta. Just someone enjoying pushing the boundary just like most of us do with or sleds every time were out. I'm sure the recovery didn't take much effort or cost as the sno cat and operator costs are already covered from the trail pass.
I say chalk it up as a mistake and move on!!!!

Recovery of a vehicle would not be the club's responsibility in any case, and sure as hell wouldn't be for free!

The trail pass in question here, is being referred to by all the other trail passes that were purchased by the snowmobilers heading up the trail that day. That snow-cat was going up and down that trail regardless of whether or not that jeep was sitting there or not. We all know it wasn't the responsibility of the snowcat operator to stop for two minutes and pull out a sling and hook it onto the front end of the Jeeps tow hook and quickly tug it out and move on, however it was more than likely just a nice kind operator doing somebody in need a nice favor. I'm pretty sure somebody has done a nice favor for you at some point in your life also when you needed it.
