it`s only fair to point out a rather large part of our fuel costs includes tax !! We drive on nice highways,have state of the art healthcare,amentities to die for........ETC ETC.
If you want cheaper fuel, move to a cheap gas country ;with the certainty of living in grass huts with no police ETC ETC..........

As far as i know 16 cents +gst is the tax we pay on fuel at the pump.That's a large part of $1.10-$1.20?
The fuel tax that we pay to the province,for example for road maint.ect. Is from the numbers that I have seen,
10 times what is actually spent.
State of the Art health care?I havent had a family doctor in 15 years.I dont know where you live,but it aint
around where I do.I have been waiting to get a MRI on my foot for 6 month's.So,I dont know where you are
coming from on that topic.

The World needs everything we have in this country and IMO we are giving it away for Next to nothing.

that may be true for Venezuela but take a look at the top ten cheapest gas prices in the world. See a trend? Saudi roads and medicare system seems pretty good to me when I last visited there.

imo, maybe not so black and white but if the government gave us Canadians a break at the pumps instead of hosing us then we could have an competitive advantage over a lot of countries. More industry, more taxes, more jobs...... you get the picture. But then again maybe the foreign owners control that too. Would not want to have such an advantage over the Americans would we

Thats what I think,we as canadians should pay less for the products that come from here,than the places that
they are shipped to.IT ONLY MAKES SENSE.
Why are half of canadas lumber mills shutdown and we are importing from the states? SOUNDS STUPID TO ME.
We pay a very heavy price for what we import from the states,so why should it not be the same for our oil,
water,gas,ect.

If it wasn't for foreign investment and shareholders of these companies, a lot of us would looking for work. There's not enough spare money kicking around Canada to have 100% Canadian ownership of these organizations (or even more than 50%)

I couldn't agree with you more. I have worked all around the world in the oil and gas industry and there is not one country that doesn't have foreign investors. Countries need the investors unordered for future developments and job creation. If anybody doesn't think that Canada is not profiting from this in many ways then they need to give their head/s a shake.

I spent nearly a year in Cuba, doesnt get much more 3rd world then that. I banged my knee up and had to go to the Dr. in and out with x-ray's in 15 min. Did I mention it was free, perscription was free, the had juice in the waiting room and it was clean. I returned home to get on a waiting list just to see a specialist and months of rehap (for the knee). Returned back there and the doc came and found me to see how i was making do.

Who has good health care??? Im not saying ours is bad, could use some tweeking but all in all isn't terriable compared to some. However perhaps if we sold our resources at fair market value perhaps we could afford that tweeking.

If they are giving fuel away in other countries so what !! If you save any money the bad dudes can just take it any how,what are you ganna do,call the police lol.

We live in a market driven economy,SO if people still buy enough fuel at a given price ,WHY would they lower it............??If evereone is in your field of work is making a 100k a year,are you going to work for 50 k ???? Of course not...........

After watching Mullscare (NDP) say the answer to fix Quebec & Ontario is to break Alberta,it really starts to PIZZ a guy off. When you give far more than your share and get bashed for doing it constantly...........
Our resource people work and play hard,good on them and good on Alberta. No matter where the cash comes from,let`s face it alot ends up in our pockets compared to other parts of the world !!

I think we are mixing up two different arguments here. We all know one of the reasons our fuel prices are high is more because of taxes than anything else. So, the government should reduce those taxes, pass savings onto consumers and industry and in return we become more competitive and create more business/exports to offset the less taxes collected. But the government wants it all....more business and more taxes. I realize we dont have the whole picture here but as a business owner who uses a lot of rail, trucking and ocean shipments I know for a fact that we lose business because of high cost of freight.

As for NDP, they can go screw themselves and their stupidity. All they are doing is trying to seek votes from the east to get into power. Once in they will quickly figure out the golden egg comes from the west (for now anyway)

Almost makes you think it's better to deal with China than Upper Canada......

That report is just another way that the "important people", both Green and Government (neither of which live anywhere near an oilsand operation OR pipeline) twist and spin some facts to get try and affect public opinion.
"Don't build the pipeline, the money all goes overseas, blah blah blah....."

Every year Ottawa takes the equivalent of a decent year's pay out of my bank account for taxes, I'm fine if someone from China actually want to put some money back in.

BC economy comes from Alberta resources, technology and people. Alberta fuels Canada's place in the world market.

Asia would not be interested in Canada if Alberta wasn't thriving.

The resources of Alberta belong to the province and people of Alberta. They are not up for federal discussion. The people of BC need to forget about telling the people of Alberta what they should be doing with their resources. Albertans do not try telling British Columbians how they should be sharing the revenue from all of the dope that they are selling. BC will manage their smoke and Alberta will manage ours.

I was just in a bad mood that's all RZR,I screwed up my ankle in nov. and I am still waiting

I am no global economist,I just don't understand why a Rich country like Canada needs
other peoples money to develop industries.
I work in the patch and I've never made anywhere near 100K,so wherever the decent wages
are,they aint around me.
I do agree with eclipse that if our government Didnt rape us so bad on tax's on fuel,that
alone would put more money in peoples pocket's, create more industries and that would create
more products to sell and generate more tax income.

you cant be serious with your comment. over 2.5 million people work in BC compared to approx 140,000 in the Alberta oil industry including mining, extraction, sands etc etc. So, what your saying is that if it were not the small percentage of BC workers working in Alberta and sending money back to BC we would all be dope smokers and on EI. Give it a break! We all live in this great country and enjoy the various benefits we ALL produce from wine made in BC and Ontario to crops grown in the prairies which by the way I export Alberta crops to the US and overseas. So based on your comment, Alberta farmers should be grateful as I create employment in your province. Also, maybe do some research and see what BC has for resources in its back pocket. We aren't no slouches either. End of my rant have a nice weekend.
