Tri-County Snowmobile Club is making a presentation to the Strathcona County Council to amend the snowmobiling bylaw. Mark your calendars and tell every snowmobiler you know:

Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at 4:45pm 2nd Floor County Hall

We are proposing a trail system from the Ministik Bird Sanctuary trail system (Township Road 510) up Range Road 214 to Cooking Lake up to Antler Lake up to Trappers Lake up to the Fort Saskatchewan Trail system. We are also looking to link Hastings Lake to Cooking Lake.

We need to fill the Council Chambers with sledders. We have to get this amendment while the topic is hot. If we don't succeed this year we will be dropping the issue. So if you want to ride in the County make sure your Councillor knows it.

If you ever want to ride again in the COUNTY OF STRATHCONA you better be at this meeting - PERIOD...
After the the October 10, 2007 "Public Needs Assessment Meeting" held at the Ministik School Gym, talks continued with the County of Strathcona towards a proper setup, maintained and safe access corridor from Cooking Lake to Ministik. It was also noted that may other residents of the County of Strathcona wanted access to Ministik also. Tri-County met with several councilors and candidates for council and learned that we must tie the Ministik Trail System into the Fort Saskatchewan trail System. It is no good to just be able to ride around on Cooking Lake as that may take 2 hours driving around on a circle but where do the residents of Strathcona County ride from there? They have a large lake surrounded by land and no legal way to gain access to the Counties of Leduc, Camrose, Beaver or Lamont. If an access corridor went from Cooking Lake north onto the Alberta Snowmobile Association (ASA) Fort Saskatchewan Trails you can access the Lamont Trails then onto the Iron Horse Trails and on to the Trans Canada Trail System which with will eventually end up in Nova Scotia or British Columbia. If you head south off of Cooking Lake you have 65 km of signed groomed Tri-County Snowmobile Clubs (ASA) trails in Ministik and can then access the Counties of Leduc, Camrose and Beaver.
You have seen the County of Strathcona close all snowmobiling within the county down - period.
Currently if you are caught riding in the county it is a $230.00 ticket per sled.
The only way you have to get riding back in the County of Strathcona is by showing your support with Tri-County and the Fort Saskatchewan snowmobile clubs and voice your support.

WE NEED YOU TO ATTEND THE MEETING OF FEB 26, 2008 and SHOW YOUR SUPPORT....
This will be the last stand for snowmobiling within the County of Strathcona.
If we are not successful at this now then you will never ride there again...

The proposed access corridors maps are indicated on the following files for you to view and print.
These maps are a draft connector trail and do not indicate the final trail system.
The maps indicate the two clubs trail systems in Blue and the proposed access corridor is in Black.

I am in as well. It is nice to be able to do a day ride in our own back yard, so lets work together on this guys and girls and make sure that our trails are here to stay.

I was at the meeting last nite for the Snow Angels and I must say that alot of these guys and girls put alot of time in on setting up the trails , grooming, taking the trails down etc.... There is alot of people using these trails that haven't bought a trail pass for like $50. I believe that is what the cost was for a trail pass. SO if your one of them then reach into your pocket and step up and be respectful enough to pay for a trail pass as alot of others have done. It is our trails so why not offer to help out as we all enjoy them and like taking the families out for a ride or just to get out with the gang for an afternoon. If more people don't start helping out and start paying for the passes ten the trail will be closed , an farmers and land owners will be notified that the snow angels have nothing further to do with the trails and then the time and effort will be lost as te farmers will start closing and putting up no trespassing signs on there feilds. Lets make this work people!

Now parking can be a problem as there is alot of construction going on. There is parking across the street in the Franklens Inn lot, there is a green sign straight through the light that says parking for the County Hall, you may park there.

We do need as many people to show up as possible so come out and show your support.

Meeting went OK as far as meetings go now we have to put pressure on them to follow thru with the proposal. If you know who your councillor is contact the person and ask for their support.
