Wondering if anyone out there can maybe point me in the right direction or help me out. I have a 2001 Kodiak 400 with maybe 800kms on it. It started acting up this year with hesitations and stalling when climbing hills. It starts fine, runs fine, every now and then it has a sputter when under load.

I took it to the dealer and they flushed the fuel system, cleaned the screens in the tank, cleaned the carb, set the valves, added a fuel filter and I had it back in to them two weeks later for the same problem.

Took it out hunting and still the problem is there.

What am I missing?

It is quite common for the intake boot to crack or delaminate on this vintage of machine. It may not be obivous if it is delaminated unless it is removed from the cylinder head. The rubber delaminates from the aluminum. Usually causes rough idle and poor performane under heavier loads.

Could also be improper float height, sticky choke plunger or choke cable.

On the ignition side it could be a bad spark plug, or bad ground at the coil.

My old 97 Kodiak would every now and again get dirt in the main jet or in the float bowl .It would check that area really good.Like Garryese said it seems to leak in that area
