He did not say stock. With a package like pipe, y-pipe etc.

800 package to me means stock lol

All the brands will gain more with work and with proper set up will still be mostly reliable

But this was a stock power discussion

Doo hit a wall with their engine design, the suzuki 800 has proven 170hp can be made reliably with an 800 package. Doo builds their engines so compact that the size of the crankcase and transfer ports are limited in size. The suzi 800 was a larger engine with the potential to flow more air easily and the new 800ctec is built very similar. We have seen what power can be made by a big bore on a cat 800 and they are reliable. The fact that the 850 is only making 5-10 hp more than the 800's is because the engine is so compact it limits it's ability to breath, tight transfer ports and small crankcase.

And yet despite their shortcomings BRP recreation managed to not only survive but thrive after getting out from under the giant corporate umbrella of Bombardier while Cat has seen sluggish sales, massive product discounts, new engine tech taking years to hit the showroom floors and now bought up by giant Textron......It's just not fair *sniffle sniffle* Don't they know Cat rocks ;)

You guys do realize that all the manufacturers leave lots of power with mods on the table

But they have to because of emissions and sound requirements

Yamaha, Cat, Poo never received gov't cash help through the 70's 80's and 90's to stay alive either.....

No they upped the cc, because you can only get so much power out of 800 cc and stay reliable ( any manufactured engine)

And what do we all want, power

Just like sxs and quads, 700 cc was more than enough to get quad going

But 1000 cc makes it stupid fast, and there's a big market for stupid fast

Thanks for your assessment of the 1000 sxs owners. I think at one time even in the early 00's there were people saying 140 hp and 150 plus track length was taking people to high and far.

they sure do, if they could build engine like the 90's without limitations would we have some big power engines today

There was a time under the large company's umbrella were the snowmobiles were far from class leading once divided Brp made steady impressive gains in market share and product reputation.

Those companies never built trains or aerospace products either.....Probably a good thing lol. As for no gov't funding not sure, as I am a Canadian and can't speak on American bailouts.....never any of those tho am sure.....right?
