Has to be demand for general handy-man services. So many loser contractors out there it should be easy to stand out. Just show up when you say, return calls and don't rip people off.
There is especially when it comes to Reno work as 2 of my customers over the past 2 years are timelining 4-8 mnths out for there work. 1 customer at the home show this year was setting up and only 1 hour in and has 20 deposits with a booking timeline of 6 mnths and he told them that, they didn't care. There is work out there but more so in the big urban jungles, not so much in the rural area's though from my stand point. I have met all kinds of us older folk doing anything from full reno's to just baseboards to painting in new const or reno's. Lots of us do not want to go to some retirement dungeon we want to stay in our homes and will do what it takes to make that work. Over the past 4 years it has been crazy busy with home reno's worse when people could not travel though:(. You might have to go to the urban jungle Trashy and bring your RV for comfort nights but it's out there and Calg i know is crazy busy as well.:)

I worked for myself last summer at our house and on my new deck. I had no new customers so to speak.
My phone has not rung this spring.
I am making a “curb board” and will use it at customers residences and if I get no requests, I will take the “curb board” and sit in a mall parking lot for a few days. I will find enough work to keep me busy.

I'd honestly prefer to sit in equipment, than do reno's. But at this point, can't say no to any work
