Alleged violent fugitives continue to evade Mounties.
Just shy of 48 hours into a manhunt for 30-year-old Andrew (Navi) Waunch and 23-year-old Ashley Chambers, Alberta RCMP are stumped as to where they are.
They’re wanted in connection with an attempted murder in the Sylvan Lake area on June 3 and an armed robbery involving the theft of a vehicle in the Olds area on June 7.
Waunch, believed to be an Innisfail resident, is previously known to police, but it’s Chambers who currently has additional warrants out for her arrest.
Details of the June 3 incident have not yet been disclosed, but police said on June 7 the pair stole a blue, two-door, standard cab 1992 GMC Sierra truck with licence plate WVX 289.
The duo were last seen heading eastbound from Olds towards Trochu in the stolen vehicle. They are believed to be armed.
From there the trail goes cold, Alberta RCMP Sgt. Patricia Neely said.
“That’s their last known direction of travel — where they went from there, we don’t know,” Neely said.
“We don’t have any indication at this moment of where he is.
“Until we get some kind of feedback from the public, we are blind on this.”
Mounties put out a plea to the public Friday afternoon for any information as to where the duo might be.
While Neely said tips have been coming in, none have yet been fruitful.
Neely said “these people don’t normally disappear forever,” and that in the meantime as long as they’ve gone to ground at least they’re not hurting anyone else.
Neely emphasized investigators believe the duo pose a potential risk to the public.
“Right now, our immediate priority is to try and locate them,” Neely said.
Anybody who encounters Waunch and Chambers is advised to call 911 immediately rather than make any attempt to approach or apprehend them.
Meanwhile, Mounties have notified all other police agencies of the volatile situation.
Trochu is a community located about 65 km east of Olds, and is also about 300 km from the Alberta-Saskatchewan border.
