I stumbled onto this 2001 2500 8.1 with Alison 5 sd the other day so I had to buy it! It's a blast to drive
Ordered some tow mirrors for a 2006 and need some mud flaps for the winter.
She likes gas thou which is the best part!!! 11 mpg is the best I can get!! Awesome!

I heard a nice tune bypasses much of the "torque control" GM built in, you could be able to add tires to the consumables list.

Allison doesn't have so much torque limits, it's the halfer with 6 speed that's limited tons

Keep 5 or 0 w40 in it year round, u will find it burns 5w30, cause it's too thin and it gets hot

Otherwise put gas in and drive it, if I my truck sold or died ect, this is what I'd get

Ya she burns a little oil like all BB. It has a magma flow exhaust which is cool if I was 17! I need a quieter muffler!! Lol

Had an 03 and loved it. The tiny fuel tank sucked though...always had a full jerry can strapped in the back and would alternate it trough the truck so it wounding get stale. Put aside some dough for tires

Ya might have to look at a Titan tank. Or slip tank.

Nice find i would loves me an 8.1 if i could afford to fuel it.

My brother drove mine and decided he wanted one to!
He found one with 140000km. Full load ECSB 2500 2003 cheaper than what I paid and mine has 200 on it. I would never buy a 6L again after owning one of these now. The gas difference would minimal but the drivability of the BB is soo much nicer..IMO

I just bought mine as a clunker to have around home to haul stuff to dump etc. It pulls my 10000# trailer no problem. It's too bad GM stopped making these bad boys! I guess the Duramax probably out sold them was why they stopped I guess!

I spec'd mine in '05 with the 8.1 and HD tow package, delivered in october as an '06 model with the six speed allison. been a great truck. just did the front end last year, other than that the only thing I've had to replace since owning it were batteries. she likes the fuel, best I've got is 17 mpg empty with it leaving it on cruise at 100km/hr. pulling my fully loaded 40' fifth wheel toyhauler it gets about 6-9 mpg depending on hills en route. it is rated for 22,500 lbs combined GVWR. It's a keeper

Nice! I'd like to find a 06 just for the extra gear but the 5sd works good too. I couldn't pass this one up as it was soo clean. It has never seen a winter.... Yet! Lol

I had bought a 2005 duramax a month ago as a clunker but buddy at work wanted it more than me. So then I stumbled onto this gas jobby.. I actually like it better as far as day driving. No doubt the duramax pulls better but around town she's heavy. Plus IMO the gas job is less cheaper maintenance wise .

Put a good chip on and the mileage will increase.... We've put several bulldog gas gt+ and all owners have said at least 15-25% increase. Also boost in power as a nice bonus ;)

Can you swap between a mileage tune and a tow tune?

I'd like to be able to switch or download between the 2 as I'll only tow heavy 3 x a year.

Picked up a 2004 3500 dually with an 8.1 and allison 2 years ago, had 95,000 kms then, up to 140000 now, lots fun and easily handles my 30 foot pull trailer and the commander on the deck. Likes fuel and doesnt like 5-30 oil, and yeah, I would like to try out a tuner at some point as well.

Gunna do my oil cooler lines tomorrow, one has a small leak what looks like in the crimp. Gunna swap both while I'm there!
Where these trucks bad for tranny lines like the diesels?
