1997 skidoo tundra 2 lt kill switch won't work have to prime to shut off

I have a 1997 skidoo tundra two and the kill switch will not shut the machine off I have to prime it so it floods out to shut the machine down. The guy I bought it from took out the key off of it and the teather cord will not shut it off any ideas??????

check and see if the electrical plug at the engine is unplugged,if it is plug it in then the kill switch will work.

Yes if the kill switch and the tether both don't work then that is the most likely problem.

Could be a broken ground.
I have a 99 rmk with the same problem. I still have the key and only way to kill it is to pull the plug wires.

I believe the engine ground wire is brown and goes to the chassis.

there is one ground wire located on the engine close to where the stator wires come out ....this one tends to fail

These little motors vibrate like crazy. Probably is the ground wire.

We have a 2001 Mxz 380 that does the same thing, but only when cold. Once warmed up the kill switch/key/teather works. Been like that for 8 years now. No idea why.
