Your not exactly current either sorry, definitely more than old man lund but sleds have come along ways since your 2013 XM. Get out with the young kids on the new sleds and tell me you can keep your eye on them with a straight face. Lmao give me a break. Easy to make that plan and say that’s what you’re going to do but in reality it doesn’t happen despite how hard everyone tries to do it. Sure that’s the best way. But to say this gauge is not a good thing is a stretch

it’s saved more lives than it’s taken that’s for damn sure

Dude ive been out riding with every new sled there is. And they aint going any where in the "tight trees" that the xm wont. And have video to prove it.

Im not saying they are a bad thing, but if you are constanly loosing prople there is a problem...

My friends picture is hanging on the wall of the boulder cabin. So maybe i have a different perspective.

I think that we can agree one more tool is always a good thing. I don’t have tracking screens to watch so I watch my riding buddies visually but it would be nice to know where they are if you lose sight so you can then head back in their direction. Any tool is a good tool. Kind of like using all the tools you can for avy safety. Everyone used to ride with a beacon only then avy bags came out and it was another tool to maybe save your life. No guarantees but obviously with mountain riding the more tools you have to make the ride successful and safer the better.

Absoutly ive been seperated from my partner before, and spend 20 min looking for them. ch!t happens. But we TRY to stay close.

Ive had 8 friends killed mountain sledding. Just saying.

To stay in sight in the "tight trees" the guy in front has to look back and possibly even stop frequently to check to make sure your partner is still in behind you.

Now if youre a "young guy" making a youtube video. That might not work.

Keep in mind ive rode with many of those guys.

I even have pictures of some the "top pros" youtubers stuck.

I havent sledded once this year, but if i bought a new one for next year. Im confident i can ride with anyone in BC and not be the week link...

It's not just to find your "partner", its to find the rest of the group. 4 of you are out riding and you split into pairs bombing through the trees. 15min later you want to meet for lunch or a guy in the other group is stuck in a tree well and it is sure nice to simply ask for help and EVERYONE know where you are and gets there straight away. Not spending another 15min finding them. All of our group runs Rino's and and if you join our group without one, you better stay close to a guy with one.

Forsure, thats a good thing. Again, never said they arent. Just saying they are no substitute for someone having an eye on you.

I don't subscribe to that big screen cause I am a cheapo. It is cool but just don't think I need it. We have been doing fine keeping track of each other but ride the more mellow terrain.

have to have a battery on sled for it so that is the real reason we don't bother with them.
Seriously though, can't see anything in the 25 would that would be worth upgrading for. Like 10g or more to go from a 23 to a 25. Not worth it in my opinion. Get your shocks revalve and progressive springs and have a lot cash sitting there to take care of any blow ups. lol
already paid for the extra storage they offer etc.

If I had a 23 I wouldn't bother either. From my T3 it would be a pretty good upgrade. After a season like this not sure I even care though.

Yes it will be interesting to see how there spring sales go A lot of 23's and 24's with very low km out there due to snow this winter. We have a 23 with 1100k and a 24 with 500k. I know guys that get new every year regardless though

a New sled is always nice. I couldn't justify even owning one to only ride 500km a year though.

I guess It might be worth it, just for claiming "hardcore" sledder status and talking chit online

This is my big use case. Our crew will split up in to 2-3 pairs and get so far apart, we waste 15-20 minutes constantly trying to regroup. Our partners generally keep each other in sight though.

"Remember the last time you saw me. Well from there i went blah blah blah". We always find each other, just takes time. Now if something happens with one pair and the rest of the crew needs to find them fast, that's where I like the trailtech system. Not only shows where they are, but how they got there.

I would agree with that. Even society now can hardly navigate without Google Maps.

Only time I've really relied on my GPS in the backcountry, wether it's Nothern Sask, Northern Quebec, NWT, Yukon or BC is when the damn fog rolls in and you can only see 10' infront of you.

It's quite interesting seeing the level on panic in some people that can't navigate themselves out of a wet paper bag without GPS.

We always let dif peeps of the group lead us back out that way there focusing more on the way in and it really helps if people get split up
