I have been running a hockey pool for about 5 years now for co-workers and friends. There is typically 25 (or so) people that join. So, in the interest of making it even bigger, we are opening it up to anyone who may be interested. That being said, below is the email I sent out to staff here, cut and paste style, so I don't have to re-type everything. This pool is a bit different, and should be fun for everyone, regardless of hockey knowledge. I'm a lifelong Oilers fan, so obviously I don't know **** about hockey.... and I still have fun :)

With hockey season about to start (October 7[SUP]th[/SUP]), it is time to start another hockey pool. This time it has a twist to make it more exciting for more people. So here are the details, as well as a link to enter should you be interested.

Details:

Pool Selection: Teams can be picked immediately
Pool Start: October 7[SUP]th[/SUP], along with hockey season.
Pool Deadline: The last day to adjust/tweak your team October 14[SUP]th[/SUP] (just before midnight)
Fee Deadline: October 31[SUP]st[/SUP]

The entry fee is the standard $20, and payouts for the “winners” will be determined based on the number of participants. You can create your team immediately and make as many changes, as often as you like, until the pool deadline (Oct. 14[SUP]th[/SUP]). This gives everyone a week to tweak, before it’s written in stone. Scoring will be much the same with goals and assists being 1 point each. Furthermore, goalies will get 5 point for a goal, 1 for an assist, 1 for a win, and 4 for a shutout. This allows a little more shuffling of the standings, and makes it more exciting.

The “twist” this year will be in the payouts. Using the example of 20 people entering the pool:

$20 x 20 people - $20 pool fee = $380 prize pool.

1[SUP]st[/SUP] = $180
2[SUP]nd[/SUP] = $100
10[SUP]th[/SUP] = $80
20[SUP]th[/SUP] = $20

What this payout style will do is create more interest for the people who might be in 17[SUP]th[/SUP] place (as an example) as they could cheer to make it to 10[SUP]th[/SUP] place, or even hope to drop to 20[SUP]th. [/SUP] It will create a “race” for a “winning” position, regardless of where you are in the pool. Let’s make this the biggest pool yet. Everyone is welcome, multiple entries are welcome! Share this link with your friends, family, and hockey loving enemies… and let’s have some fun.

We've had prize pools over $600.... let's make it even bigger this year. Welcome to Officepools!

Come take my money! ;)

I'm interested as well. Can you accept EMT for the entry fee?

You bet... may entries are from people I know in Edmonton, and a couple even further away. Although if it costs you a $1 to send the transfer, then that's on you ($21 to enter) ... ;)

1011001010101100 (kelly) sure took a beating ;)

Yes.... I can still hope for last and get my money back...lol I won it the first year I entered, and haven't since (although winning once pays for your next 20 entries lol)

How are you doing in it? Looks like you still have a shot at some cash if you have a big night.... (if I remember your team name)

Looks like you can hit 11th, which is a money spot.

Good luck to both of you.
