The author is a business and financial writer.... What use is his word into a sport he most likely has never tried. To busy running away from any and all types of risk, hiding behind his desk in a safe zone, comfortable with taking orders and playing the safe card for the rest of his life. Risk=reward. At least that's how mind set is. I'll stick with the risky stuff that feels more like life. Instead of playin it safe just waitin to die. His story means nothing to any one of us

This is coming from the "reputable magazine" that put a convicted war criminal on the cover as a victim along with two women that were actual victims.

This bleeding heart Liberal society is really getting the blood boiling.

Amazing how they forget the stats on other back country users but try to pump up the stats for anyone that uses internal combustion to explore our great land.

It's stupid.
It's sad to say but the media feeds off tragedy.

Orr how many get hurt or die ski hills but it's hidden within the resort staff

Yup, more bored liberals just trying to protect us from ourselves without a clue, but a hint of an idea of facts. Would also too love to see facts in boating stats compared to snowmobiling nationally.

What political correctness we live in today. This guy probably wrote the attack on Starbucks putting 'Merry Christmas' on coffee cups. Next will be an article on how to parent my children from this crusader

Trouble is they're winning... This is just more fuel for the greenies to use, coming from a "reputable" magazine like maclean's ..... Too bad they'll never write an article on the good stuff in our sport, or commraderie(not spelled right) of sledders....

Sent a twitter message to Ezra Levant, some may hate him but I believe his brutal honesty is a breath of fresh air in the Liberal controlled media, asking about a report on the "nanny state" and Liberal agenda coming after the snowmobiling culture after a tragedy. Never know, maybe we could get a little positive press on our side.

I was researching the boating, drowning deaths in north america 2 nights ago... I wanted to start a thread bout it on here so u guys and gals can have faacts to shut up the haters u will have in ur face one day.

Quick facts. I think it was 2014 or 2012 in th US 610 people died on or in water. One third of those were drowning, one third of were due to boating. This same stat is true to canada. Canada has about 170 drowning deaths per year.
In the same group of 610 deaths in us 118 drowned from kayaks, canoes !!! So far in the us its 5 or 6 snowmobilers died in avalanches, 1less than skiers.

I think we should ban canoes and kayaks.... put that to the haters.

In the summer of 2012 in canada 34 people drowned in 2 months!

If i didn't take a year off to recoupe my knees, i'd take ezra levant on a sled trip to mcbride and let him experience the "experience" of sledding in the mountains, if even just for a day trip ... Then, see what kind of report he comes up with... I bet it would be sensational ;) ........... Anyone game?

Nailed it.

Anyone can go and cherry pick a bunch of stats to make almost any activity look like a daily dance with death. This Macleans article is nothing but another cheap attention getter via a lazily written swipe.

Unfortunately coming from him it won't be positive as he will yell and stomp his feet, no mainstream media will pick it up and the only people that will see it are the ones that already know the problem. Needs to be CBC, Global, CTV, Macleans, National Post, etc.

I would gladly take Ezra or any media member on a ride for the weekend, I would even provide the sled and gear. Would be nice for a media member to go through an AST1 course in the class and field and then actually go for a ride with a group of experienced riders just to see what we do and all of the positive sides of our sport.

I wonder if someone like Rick Mercer would entertain a day in the hills on a sled? Not exactly a news source but he is someone that, through his comedic approach, can get the message across to a broad range of groups. I agree with Ezra being a very radical right wing and that may not get attention from the left but to be honest i think anything would be a good start at this point.

perfect... Now someone needs to get this to the media..... the greenies won't like this!!!! :)

this is taken from this article:
Over the 16-year period, the number of Canadians who died in boating-related accidents was 2,765 (or about 173 people per year). Only 3% of these deaths were kayakers and 22% were canoeists. The situations associated with fatalities among recreational boaters (immersion and trauma deaths alike) were capsizing (39%), falling overboard (25%), swamping (12%), and colliding (8%). Fifty-nine percent of these deaths were associated with powerboats and 36% were associated with human-powered boats like kayaks, canoes and rowboats.
