Hey guys the wife and I have never been to Vegas but we have a buddy getting married there right after New Years and will need to book a trip.

We will be flying from Calgary

What's the best way to book? Should we be looking for a flight and hotel package or book those separately?

I'd book them together. Most those hotels give some pretty good incentives to get people in there doors. We were down there last new years and be warned the price of everything can get crazy around new years! The strip was nuts on new years eve, never been around that many people in my life.

I recently took a trip down to Austin TX and booked my flight directly through the air line and did very well on the price. I got the hotel on booking.com for alot cheaper than booking through the hotel. The only thing is some options don't allow you to cancel rooms without penalty.

We find book separate.
WestJet usually has the best price on flights Wednesday or Thursday travel dates.

Hotel with WestJet are too expensive.

Try hotels.com

We go for a week at a time and book condo's off the strip.

Been to Vegas 6 or 7 times. Fun place

when booking hotels try searching on your phone and PC . or put your phone in " Desktop view" strange but rooms at the Luxor were 50% cheaper on desktop view !
also when checking in if there is a big lineup be sure to mention it and ask if they can offer anything . Most hotels happy to throw out a 50.00 F&B credit for your inconvenience

If you're planning for the luxor, they usually "upgrade" everyone to the big square block in the back. I've never seen/heard anyone staying in the actual pyramid... For me its The Cosmopolitan or nowhere... maybe Aria

Aria is very nice - havent stayed at the cosmo .

Luxor was 65.00 / night net. . lately they have been trying to charge 15.00 for the " upgrade " I managed to get it for free . although its a bit run down ( even in the towers) its still clean, quiet and comfortable . Decent Pool and good dealers/ staff . Wouldnt pay for the buffet but if you can score it free its decent for breakfast or lunch . Aria Buffet is fantastic and pool area very nice . Aria is more like 140 and up for a room

The Vdara is also one of the only non smoking hotels if that matters

Cosmo has balconies on every room, I don't think anywhere else does since they were supposed to be condos. I have stayed there a few times and love not walking through a huge smoky casino to get anywhere. the balcony and Japanese soaker tubs make it all worth while IMO

+1 for booking separately. As for hotels booking a good one in Vegas can make your stay that much better. Stayed in a lot of them here's my short list.

Wynn-Nicest hotel by far. Everything is on another level.
Aria-Really nice as well but I didn't like the location. It's kind of tucked behind slightly off the strip.
Bellagio-Fancy but boring. A lot of seniors there lol.
Planet Hollywood-Not on the same level as the Aria or Wynn but is still very nice. Is the most fun by far. The casino literally turns in to a party. A lot of fun and the location is perfect.
MGM-Best pool area. Good bang for your buck most of the time. Massive place so bring your walking shoes.
Cosmo-Never stayed there but walked through it many times. Will probably try it out next time I go.

Vdara was nice, no casino so doesn't have smoke smell. Also very small for Vegas so takes 2 mins from front door to get in your room. Also same time for pool to room, kept going back to refill drinks not that you care for January.

We booked direct in spring but signed up in Vegas.com for deals. Should be a bunch around when you go.
