All of those gimmicky clamp on things are ok until you need to turn or if you slide sideways. Then they pop off. The cable chains are better but watch them closely. As they flex the cable strands break and fray. Very sharp, hard on the tires and your hands. The heavier the vehicle the more you need good old tire chains. V bars or tryggs. Sometimes the old school stuff is still the best.

Go with a set of light chains, that stuff is garbage. Even cable chains are not great. I through chains a lot and take my word for it, good chains put on right are worth there weight in gold .

You do not need those rubber thingys. Put the chains on right. See the cams on the chains. There should be a t-bar that comes with the chains. The one end of it goes into the slot, (End looks like a big slot screwdriver.) and give it a half turn to take up the slack. Some times you have to readjust the chain where the hooks are to take up the slack.
The last thing you want is a loose chain that rolls around when driving as this will jresk the chain and you also lose traction. Want it tight like guitar string.
A properly adjusted cam lock tire chain will have twice as much traction then a tire chain with that rubber thingy.

You obviously are a chain expert, you don't need them but chains stretch over time and the set I'm running right now are on there last leg, last three days I put over 400 klms on mine , those rubber band lengthen the life of your chains and when they come a bit loose the rubbers keep them somewhat tight therefore saving your chains and fenders. The run I'm doing today and for the last week is 90 Klm round trip with jewelry on. Every bit of help is good. And for the rubbers they also help people who may not put them perfect every time like yourself lol.
