A few years back I got the Motorfist "technical" gloves (I don't remember what they called them) for $10 and they are my favorite. Basically just glorified mechanics gloves, lots of grip.
For the trail in/out and colder days I have these cheapo HJC gloves I got years ago that have next to no grip but damn do my hands stay warm.
