I decided to keep the mods that I had before the motor went...basically High compression (50/50) race fuel, pipes etc. It's been exceptionally reliable so why change it.
This weekend will be it;s first run with the rebuild so I'm looking forward to seeing how it does.

Well Summitric and I pulled the motor apart on Monday Night.
I broke a ring which in turn put a huge scratch in the cylinder wall of the PTO side. Piston is shot and the dome would need a bit of work.

Classic example of detonation. Old fuel I presume or not enough octane?

No, the fuel was new, it may have leaned out coming down in Golden. Motor is now broken in so Today I Get My First Hard Ride on rebuild.

Not a good thing at all...but is life.
The head gasket failed due to the gasket crimping (improper install).
Once it was re-done all was good ($70.00 repair).

Now I have a problem with fuel delivery (I think).
It's pulling hard but it starts to sputter and trys to stall near the end of a good pull. I'm going to replace the Carb Boots, Jets, Check Reeds and see if I can find anything else that seems out of place. I have to check the adjustable jetting as well because I couldn't seem to lean out the motor enough to heat up the pipes. I will pulling 1100 to 1150. I'm thinking my stalling might be a case of "Running To Rich"

I will start on it tomorrow.

On a positive note, the pistons and walls looked "awesome" after the first tank of fuel...thats a good thing.
