I know this ones kinda beaten to death, as in what half ton should I buy.

I’m in the market and am researching what I should buy, what are you guys getting for real world fuel mileage for the 5.0l f150 vs 3.5/2.7 eco boost? I am referring to the newer 10 speed trucks

I’m leaning more towards a 5.0 b/c it’s simply less moving parts to fail, I feel maintenance down the road would be less as well?

I used to have a 13 5.0, I think I got 18l/100....I was younger at that time and liked to abuse the skinny pedal lol

The meter in my 18 5.0 has been saying avg 15.3 per 100km. I’m really happy with the 5.0. With the 10 speed it has lot’s of power. I don’t do a lot of towing with it though.

I asked around quite a bit about this before buying my ecoboost. The answer was consistent that the ecoboost was better. Mine is 11 or better on the highway......12.5-13 when just putting around here. Have talked to quite a few people that switched from the 5 to the ecoboost and wouldn’t go back

Agreed with above my brother in law has had a 2019 in both the 3.5 and 5.0 and he said the 3.5 was 1-2L per 100km better more noticeably on the highway. Currently has the 5.0 but says he will switch back to the 3.5 for next truck.

Thanks for the responses guys, now my next question. If you were to buy a rebuilt F-150 would it be best to stick with the eco or 5.0 (because there wouldn’t be any warranty )

High km 5.0 have valve problems. Can’t remember which cylinder but it’s a known fact .
Just right around the 200000 kms
Other then that they are a great little motor .
On my second eco and no problems.

not really relevant to the new 5.0 or eco but i just bought a older 14 150 for just city driving so i don't mile out the big diesel and it has the 6.2l and it says im getting 15.8. I'm pretty impressed for a bigger motor. My Old man has a 19 eco and loves it, but he don't tow anything...new ones sure are purdy, id buy one if i was looking for new half ton.

this is a great resource! Always look into it before purchasing. In my experience 200k on a 5.0 and now 160k on a 3.5 eco it’s a wash. Eco is slightly better in the summer and 5.0 takes it by a small margin in the winter. 5.0 also couple mpg better towing but eco is nicer to tow with. I would buy either one again both great engines.

Yes I think fuelly is a great resource cuts out some of the one off bs’r replies.
Fuelly would say 2.7 is better than 5.0 is better than 3.5.
If I was buying a new f150 would buy 5.0L had 6-7 3.5s, 3 of them had engine related issues. I know millions of them out there just I never had great luck with the 3.5.

I had a 5.0 F150, foolishly traded it in on a 3.5 ecoboost lemon, when the third engine blew up in it and I lemon lawed it, i bought another 5.0 which was a great truck. They got basically identical mpg, but the ecoboost did save a lot of fuel behind the tow truck, and being in the shop so much!

Put your foot on the floor with the new eco boost and you better hang on. I had a 2012 eco that did awesome but traded it off due to growing family. I wouldn't hesitate
