I just purchased a used 2013 450 KTM with a 2015 Timbersled 120 set-up and now new to the snowbike world.

What are the must haves to be added and the nice to have.
The bike is basically stock and has not been set up for a snowbike until now.

Thermostat if you dont have one (didnt say which 450?)
hand guards
i like gauntlets better then grip heaters (because they always work)
small booster cables (i havent seen a ktm not start yet but just incase)
figure out air intake (timber pod works good on ktm)

Thanks for the info - Bike is 2013 KTM 450 SXF

Will it need a thermobob thermostat? Does everyone carry an extra drive drain

What about an engine cover to keep engine warm
I assume a hydrophobic air filter will work in airbox.

Are lights going to be a concern for you?

And just thinking, pre filter cover, the snow plugs the airboxes pretty quick unless there is a better mod, grip heaters unless its a non issue for you, better battery as you dont have a kick start, and suspension revalve as you are going to be quite a bit heavier once you pound all that snow on the machine.

- thermostat thermo bob and temp gauge
- engine shroud keep engine temps up ( i made one outa some 1/8" puck board)
- block rads in with some plastic type carboard as needed ( i carry two pieces for each rad and on cooler days usually blocking in the one rad keeps engine temps right at 170 )
- seat concepts seat unless you like sitting on a 2x4 piece of wood
- bigger foot pegs are nice
- bark busters ( these are a must these bikes are made for tight trees these have saved my hands so many times)
- light of some sort ( i run a cyclops led bar and a frankensled helmet trail light, helmet light is all you need )
- heated grips are okay mine dont seem to put out enough heat I might try coolant heated bars this year)
- respring forks to heavier spring a must unless you want a ton of ski pressure and terrible handling and bottoming out alot
- carry a spare chain and master link
