I collected UI for 7 or 8 months, and am glad that I could. When I left the RCAF I got a regular job for about 10 months, then realized that I was suffering from PTSD and was just sort of existing and coping with life the best way I could, but it was not well. Those 7 or 8 months off collecting unemployment insurance allowed me to decompress, travel, and get my life together after the PTSD from doing two tours of duty and nearly being killed.
That was a long time ago, and today I own multiple businesses, and employ over 200 people.
So i can see a safety net like UI being used by someone who needs it for a while.
What should not be allowed is those lifetime people on welfare that never ever get a job.
