We have a 1998 Arctic Cat Powder Special that we lent to someone and he crashed it into a tree.He bought a hood and gave it to us no stickers or nothing. Then he moved to Alberta. There was a hole in the hood so we got the new one and have it all set up and are trying to put it onto the sled. The place where the hood pins attach the hood to the frame is screwed. In the bumper there is a sliding piece where the pins screw into. It seems to have fallen off a track, and we can't figure this out. We really do not want to pay Arctic Cats ridiculous prices for fixing small things. Any help would be awesome.

On the Powders and ZR's or these particular hoods, there is a backer plate that slips in from behind that the hood pins screw into. Its kind of a sandwich affair and can be a real treat to try and install. Lots of scuffed knuckles. The backer plate goes in from behind and you'll need someone to hold the hood in-place while you start the screw/hood pins into the backer plate. You need to position (slide around the track as you spoke of) and then snug up and check for fit and alignment. Once its good ...tighten down once you have it all aligned. I'm not sure if you have all the necessary parts....but you can go to Brown's Leisure World - Home Page and select fische for snowmobiles. Enter the year of your machine and pick hood. It'll give you an exploded diagram of the parts you'll need or should have along with the part numbers to the right. Its kind of hard to explain the hardware, but you should have a backing nut that is a gold anodized or galvanized piece for each side that is like a flat plate about 3/4 of an inch by an inch with a welded in nut. This is the backer plate that needs to go in from behind the hinge. Then a couple of washers and the pin/hood screw itself. You may need to go to a Cat dealership and he can show you the correct parts if you don't have them and explain how to put them in. It sounds hard but really isn't once you know you have everything you need. If anything is missing you won't be able to tighten or align the hood. It'll end up sliding around. These hood pin screws really take a licking up front and I used to use some blue thread locker on them if not make sure you are checking them and tightening as they have a tendency to back-off and fall-out. Then everything ends up somewhere in the belly pan and is another adventure in trying to retrieve them....I used to have a spare set around and they usually got used at some point. You also mentioned the peice that the screws go through is wrecked. You will need a new one. I am assuming its the part that bolts to the hood....this is the main hinge and if its broke there is nothing you can do but purchase a new one before you put it together. Hope it helps....good luck.
