Hey all,

New to the forum, but trying to plan a 3-5 day trip to the Kakwa falls. I was wondering if there is a way to access them leaving from Grande Cache WITHOUT going all the way down the 2 lakes road (Grande Prairie way?)

Off road vehicles quads/UTV's/built jeeps/etc capable?

I've read that its possible, heard that its not... just looking for some reliable information before making any solid plans.

A friend of mine has a neighbor that is with SRD, he told us he's heard of an old pack trail that goes to the falls from GC but said it would be hard to find and impossible by anything other than horseback.

North Weyerhaeuser road on hwy 40 turn west and follow to red rock road. Very end of it is a trail that goes across to two lakes. Then your probably 10 km north of the lake itself. Your quadding from the end of the red rock.

You can go from the beaver dam road to Compton Air strip and then follow road out to Km 33 on Sheep Creek Road.
Stay left and them travel to Km 50 +\-
On SC road .
Turn right onto old Compton tower road and follow down to Kakwa River.
At river travel down stream about 2 Kms through the bush to crossing at Porcupine Flats.
Cross river and then go to end of old air strip to trail and then keep on trail to falls.
5 river crossings in all and river has to be low for SxS or quads.
Sept. is best and not possible with Jeeps.
Bring power saw as you will need it.
If you make it to South K Falls it is just below main lower falls
Walk up south K and there is a set of falls to only 1/2 k up.
Good luck
