friend had a 2007 crew cab short box f250 5.4l. 16mpg empty and 12-13 hauling trailer with skid steer. He had no issues with it. Happy with the power and mileage was what he expected.

Run an f-350 SRW (6.8) and get average 21-22L/100K. It's fairly loaded all the time though, 5000Kg or so.

I had a 2010 f-350 with the 5.4
Best was 16l/100 km (15 MPG) dry on the highway, and worst was 35l/100 km (6.7 MPG), with 2 sleds on the deck going against a strong headwind.
SEVERELY underpowered, you step on it and she almost bogs...

In the city I got 21l/100 KM (11 MPG) if I drove like I was in a funeral precession.

Get the v-10. On average it's about a litre per 100 worse, with enough power.

I average 500-550km/100Liter tank. 20l/100km or so. 2003 F250 with the 5.4. This is an average, its less when two sleds are on the deck, and more when there are not.

After 05(?) they went to a 3 valve 5.4 that should be better on fuel, but that is me guessing.

Pulling 2 sleds or 2 quads @ 110kph i'm getting 24L/100. The truck has tons of power for towing but definitely likes the fuel. I'm running 35" toyo's on it too.

The most inportant thing to remember is to get the right gear ratio for the application that you are using truck for. The truck i have now is a 2011 F250 Crew cab long box with 6.2 and 4:30 gears and it gets a average of 15 to16 MPG over a period of a month or two .
This includes hauling sleds and running empty. Truck pulls like crazy as it is in the power band with the ratio i have. The newer motors are small displacement and require them to rev in order to make any power.
I find that most trucks have to low ratio like 3:73 or 3:55 and will work fine if you don't haul anything or keep them very light.
With the newer 6 speed trans. these new engines work pretty dam good. Have 96000 on this truck and has never seen dealer and is still in perfect shape.

This truck has a levelling kit and stock size tires and RPM is 2200rpm at 120kms .
If your not pulling much and running empty most of the time i would go with 3.73 gears which would bring the kms per L up. Wished Ford offered 4.10 in these trucks but they don't at this time.

My 2003 F350 V10 auto c/c srw s/b 4x4 gives me 16mpg(14.6l/100km) empty at 110kph and 8.6mpg(27.1L/100km) loaded with our trailer at a combined weight just under 15,000lbs at 100kph.It is pretty consistant at those numbers.I run 33" tires and have a Roll "n" lock so the box is always covered.We have four F250-350 V10 in our family with different configurations and they all get almost the same numbers give or take and decimal point.

I would run away as fast as you can if youre considering a 5.4 in the 3/4 or 1 ton.
My old man has a '09 f250 with the 5.4 that is going to the auction soon as the next one comes up. Like Cuso said you step on it right to the floor even empty and the thing bogs bad. Most underpowered truck I have ever driven and horrible mileage. the engine also starts banging like it's ready to blow after a long drive (maybe cause it's always floored)?

You definately want to go with the 6.2 l and not the 5.4 which was available in previous years, not sure if they offer the 5.0l in the 250 now but stick with the 6.2l. Lots of power and if the fuel mileage that has been posted for guys that actually have the 6.2 and not the 5.4 then that is not bad at all.

surprisingly, it's only 1 to 2 L/100 KM different, in everyday driving/
Towing is about par.

I was lookin at the 6.2 in a f-250 on friday and the salesman tried telling me that he has a lot of guys getting 22mpg on the highway. This seems kind of far fetched to me anyone getting anything close to this in the highway. My ram 1500 gets 17 mpg constantly on the highway.

yea but 12/13l/100k seems awesome for a 3/4 ton gasser thats around what my 1/2 hemi gets..... Hell id take it maybe with a programer a guy could gain 1.5mpg yet.

Like you said salesman!! With a 3/4 ton crew cab 4x4 you can expect between 15 and 18 MPG pending driving habits and load.
