As someone mentined, PRIVATE, is the key. Once you go commercial, it is a whole other kettle of fish. No one has mentioned log books yet either. If you are driving a truck that is registered commercial and is over a 5,500 kg (i think, might be wrong), the driver is supposed to be filling in a log book.
At least our yard guy/driver is, I know that.

i think your right and any vehichle registared commercial must have a daily safty check done as well ...

I believe Federal law is anything over 4500kg. I run a F-350 SRW (commercial) with a GVW of 5080KG and I have to run log books, CVIP's etc.
