April 7th. Members of ABCSnow and the BCSF met with Mps and MLAs to discuss the Caribou recovery strategy.
We had a great meeting! To say that "politicians" do not hear us is an inaccurate statement.
Minister Steven Thomson, Minister Coralee Oaks, Minister Bill Bennet, Minister Shirley Bond, MLA Jackie Tegart, MLA Donna Barnett (who is amazing awesome fantastic and sooooooo one of us!!! )
Pierre Dion, led the talks, clearly bringing to light not only our concerns but our suggestions for the recovery project. We fully believe a new management structure needs to be implemented. Biologists, (herd specialists) need to become a stakeholder in the project rather than the point of power, dictating every move. We are an ally and a valuable asset to this process. We believe that based upon our past history of active participation and compliance, we have clearly demonstrated our willingness for this project to succeed. We are Not impactful, nor are we a contributing factor for the declining populations. We'll have a full briefing in a bit. Here are some pictures. More to come.
I must stress how fantastic these MPs and MLA's are. We are fortunate to have allies who truly want to work with us.

Thank you very much for your efforts (and for the efforts of many others) !! It is truly appreciated ! For others reading this, here is one of the main reasons to be a member of snowmobile clubs in the areas you ride. Momma and many others like her are fighting on behalf of us all and need our financial support to continue the fight. Thanks again, Momma !

I really hope the vibe you got from them is true. Friggen politicians, you never know. They listen, tell you what you want to hear and then do what ever they want to do anyways but now they know your side of the story to use it for loop holes. Sorry for being so negative. I've been negative a lot lately, guess I'm grumpy.....Snow is almost gone.....

This is my concern also but some of those names on that list are solid politicians that have earned a lot of respect. I am optimistic we will see changes for the better for all stakeholders.

Good to see BCSF and ABC in the same room.

Still crazy, we still need to all get back together, they probably laughed when everyone left the room. Silly sledders, can't even play nice with each other.

No, we don't need a new thread Trish. I am glad at least they will meet with both but.........

Change is coming.........albeit, slowly with little steps that may not be noticeable.

I ended up with goosebumps several times. There were so many moments I was humbled to the point of near tears. Without skipping a beat, the BCSF and ABCSnow people meshed together, working for a common goal. Each of us had unique skills to bring to the table. Everyone including the MLAs and MPs were there to facilitate our voice. The voice of snowmobilers. I can't even express how supportive they are, especially MLA Donna Barnett. She is one of us. A snowmobiler from way back, a champion for our sport. My eyes were opened! I am simply humbled to be a part of this! We have a great team, and I can not say enough about Pierre Dion. He delivered our message with such clarity and strength.

It's good to hear that our voices are being heard. Small bits of progress are better than none at all

Because I am all Presidenty and such.... I have to refrain from my usual wit and banter I'd normally interject in this situation.... A famous bumper sticker comes to mind......
I will say one thing. I'm very thankful that all of us are deeply committed to repairing and strengthening our ABCSnow/BCSF relationship.. It is being noticed by political powers, and they are very pleased. I truly am doing the best I can, as is Erin Hart and his crew. We are moving forward, with dedication, determination, and productivity, for our sport and our people.

Well, what's done is done and its not by the actions of the leaders around the table, so I say move on and don't get drug into another pointless debate about something that happened in the past. The fact that the BCFS And ABCSnow were in the same room, at the same table and representing sledders is all that matters. The topic is the future and how our sport moves ahead, so let's keep that direction and not spend time debating the "one group or two" scenario. Can't speak for everyone but I'd rather see the efforts of both organizations go to improving the sport, not pointing fingers. What happens down the road is anyone's guess.

Still crazy, we still need to all get back together, they probably laughed when everyone left the room. Silly sledders, can't even play nice with each other......

I'd like to think that they'd recognize the extreme irony in that, and how little gets done when school yard antics come into play, because there are how many different parties representing "government" in the province (is it 3 or 4 now....)? We could just as easily say "Silly politicians, can't even play nice with each other?" but that won't help so let's not go there. A true leader leads by example. They met with us, its a start.

Great job Trish. I think whether they are sincere (I really hope so), or just being politicians........a good strategy might be to really publicize your meeting in a very positive manner. This way it makes them winners in the public eye by helping us. It puts us on the winning side before things get started. So if all of the ABCSC and BCSF club presidents or representatives could have something published in their local papers I think it would really solidify the perception that we are on the same team as the "good guys". If we have the politicians AND public favor on our side we have it made.

Wow, guess I should only say what you guys want to hear. I will not let up on this, as you know. And if trying to compare 4 political parties to two separate federations representing "us" and "our sport" then you miss the point. Great you are being nice to each other, that is super. So do any of you saying let it go think that Sicamouse and Revelstoke who actually boarder each other and share caribou closure areas should stay as two separate federations? Can't really believe it is an argument, I get that stuff went down, you have made sure I know that, but it is time for talks about getting back on the same team.

Man let it go already. I have faith that the two clubs will unite again, but why rush it? What is that going to accomplish? Trish is posting about what a tremendous success the meeting was between all of the politicians that decide our fate AND both organizations......so why put any negative light on that? I call that a huge success. As stuff like this continues to happen and relationships strengthen it will happen eventually. It doesnt have to be today though.

Fair enough, that is your opinion, not mine, skip my posts if you do not like it. I will not let it go, if you haven't noticed. If you do not get why then you do not understand the problem. If you really believe that two federations is the way to go, then keep doing what you are doing, nothing.

I have not said it wasn't great that a meeting was held and that Government is listening but I know for a fact that we are looked upon by many in the powers that be as a large user group who can not get along. Not just my opinion but a fact.
