What is the best aluminum polish to use for bringing the shine back to our new deck, aside from calling up our buddy Boydo, what does everyone use?

Hands down F1 made by Boydo....think i paid $20 a bottle or something like that. If you'd otherwise like to try some of the many different brands from Walmart or CT i could also help you out but nothing works like Boydo's concoction.

The best polish is the stuff somebody else uses. Uggh, I hate polishing.

as do I but the sides on this deck are quite tarnished, want to bring it back to a nice shiney lustre

Try this, Take a Green bar of polish and grate it into a bottle and take BBQ lighter fluid and mix to a paste. Use as you would any other polish. When you think you have it shined up and want to get rid of the black residual polish get a sock full of flour and beat it against your work and keep on polishing. The flour takes the black stuff away and leaves you with a new mirror.
