We have nothing but time now and nothing else left to loose.

Here is something else that might just make you print, sign and mail your letter. THESE AREAS REMAIN OPEN TO HELI-SKIING.

Thanks, we met a lot of snowmobilers last wk. :d
Lots of offers were made to have this posted on their websites. What so many of the Americans said was "This is Yellowstone all over".

This how I saw it. Since 2004 we started working with MoE on the Mtn. Caribou Implementation Plan. We produce a SMA (Stewardship Management Agreement), that was used as a platelet for all clubs with Caribou closure areas and those who now would have them in the prov. We also produced a mtn. caribou reporting form to be used by clubs. At this time we also negotiated riding areas in the Revelstoke area that had mtn. caribou closure areas. We defined each others responsibilities to work together to keep these areas open to snowmobiling. This was a 4 yr. process.

In 2006 we woke up one day and there were new additional elevation closures in effect from 1300-2100 metres. Closures to snowmobilers only. As far as we know there are not closures of this type anywhere in the prov.

In 2008 we finially sign our SMA with Gov. we were thanked and told not to expect any further snowmobiling closures in the Revelstoke area.
A yr and a half later ILMB (Intregated Land Management Bureau) wants a meeting, we meet Mr. Peel. He tells us that Caribou Basin and Standard Basin will be closed. He informs us our deal was with MoE he is ILMB "no deal".
We went back to the table, we tried to negotiate new boundaries for Standard Basin and asked for a member permit system for Caribou Basin. We also asked that if these areas were to be closed that we be compensated with other snowmobiling opportunities in areas that did not have carbiou issues.

In Feb. we heard this closure letter was on a ministers desk, ready to be signed. We travelled to Victoria and met with ministers. We left that meeting assured that they would look into it and that we would continue working together.

We asked for the City of Revelstoke`s support, we attended a city coucil meeting 4 wks. ago. The City asked Darcy Peel ILMB to attend.
We were not allowed to comment only ask questions during Mr. Peel`s presentation. It was here that we heard the closures had gone through. The letter was signed 2 wks. prior, done deal. No compensation. No notifcation from Gov. and the new closure maps are posted on the Gov.`s sites.

A recent letter to one of the ministers we met with in Feb. at the Parliament Buildings tell us
"Due to the recent realignment of government, this topic now falls under the purview of the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations" and for us to contact them.

Here are the recent articles in our local paper.

That was the cover page of the presentation Mr. Peel from ILMB gave us when he told us the closures were going ahead, that our deal was with MoE and he was ILMB, no deal. Said it was the only way he could make other gov. depts. laugh when it came to snowmobilers and mtn. caribou. We told him it`s wasn`t funny at all.
