Just curious - have a few to list for sale and wondering if any one has had any luck yet - or do we need a snowfall to make that happen????

My feeling is the used sled market could do quite well over the next few years, just read your paper to see what is happening in the global financial markets. Not only is the U.S. having problems but there are now problems with the European Banks having to be propped up to avoid failure. What has this to do with the used sled market you say?? Well all this financial turmoil could and probably will result in a global slow down for the demand in commodities and oil is a commidity that this province and country depend on for economic prosperity. So if the demand slows for oil so does the demand for workers to bring that oil to the market place, hence an economic slow down for Alberta and Canada, hence lay offs in the oil patch and related businesses, hence less money to spend on new toys, hence bigger demand for used toys (less cash to lay out). And don't think that the Chinese and Asian markets will be our saviour they to are experiencing serious financial problems. Folks I thinks we are in for a major economic upheval over the next three to five years, It will be interesting times:eek: My :twocents: on the state of the world economy and how it relates to the used sled market!!!! Next post will be on quantum physics and its relation to sledding LOL.

All that you state is probably true. Alberta is a filckel place, I remember when oil was $11 a barrel. It was one of the most crazy years I had, I put on 1350000 km that year. Oil was out but Gas was in, every one was redoing old gas wells, it was insane. You never know how its all going to play out. Back to selling sled's, a little colder whont hurt, keep a eye in the paper when you see the sled add's double you will know its time.

This will be dating me but when my wife and I bought our first house in the early eighties mortgage rates where at 22%!!!!!! The only way we could buy the house was going through a program called Alberta Home Mortgage for first time home buyers which reduced our mortgage to the small rate of 11%LOL but it got us our first house and a funny thing we had that house payed off within ten years. By the way that little economic disaster was due to a program called the National Energy Program (Trudeau Voodoo Economics) any one working in the oil patch at that time (which I was) will never forget the turmoil that little socialist experiment caused. It took many years to recover from that one.

Holy Hijack! :d This is a whole thread on its own. Good points though.

I agree with everything you stated Billy Boy.. and if that is the case we'll all have 5 or 6 shiny used toys sitting in our back yards that we can't afford to ride. It's happened in the past and could happen again I guess.

With the economic crisis the US is experiencing right now, we will feel the effect no doubt. We are always effected directly with what happens south of the boarder.

Haggis... used sled prices have dropped big time, look at "New" sled prices? or atv's for that matter. Prices have come way down in the last year alone due to the fact that you can jump south of the boarder and save thousands.. everybody's doing it. Good if your buying, not so good if your selling of course but oh well. I would wait until November to list your used machines.. seems everybody is looking as soon as the snow flys, but there are also more used sleds on the market.

my :twocents:

Billy boy... Can't wait for the Quantum Physics lecture!

Sorry for the Hi-Jack Haggis but the state of the economy was the first thing that hit my mind when I read your post. I was also thinking about what has been going on in the U.S. for the past couple of years; when times start getting tough the first thing to go is the toys and I am thinking we are not to far behind that scenario here at home. I will shut up now and go work on on my quantum physics theory LOL.

My brother and a friend of ours both sold their sleds in 2 days. Both of them got the asking price also,so I don't think things are all that bad up here.

theres some good deals out there,BUT also more high priced used sleds than ever. The big dealers sell New sleds for 0 down,no payments till spring , so in the spring they OWE moron the sled than the same dealer is clearing them out for, kinda P-sses a guy off from buying new anymore.
I bought a new Sled from 1971 to 1989,,when they reached $5000.00 I stopped,Kids clothes and one meal a day were more important.. so the last 4 yrs its been Old Indys for me.cheap to buy, cheap to fix,and easy to sell.like to try a Phazer Mtn now,Rental companys was advertizing 07s for 3500.00and theres a few repos around too. .
