Have a look at the valve stem seals after compression check. We had a 750 Brute Force that was burning oil. Pulled down for pistons etc, and found only problem was seals dis-lodged on 2 valves. Not sure why, but no problem since. Really CHEAP fix if that is your problem.

Back in the day, we were running Honda TRX 300s wirh oversize tires in the skeg to work with. Had temp lites on constantly. Switched to synthetic oil, lite no longer on. Don't know why, perhaps less friction = less heat, but that was the deal.

700 has always been a good engine. The 800 was a problem. I say buy it, use good oil and have fun! Check wiring harness near steering post to ensure no pinching of wires, and also where harness runs down on clutch side for chafing.
