Does anybody use a Garmin Montana 600 for sledding?

I finally managed to grab a few photos of my GPS mount. My installation consists of the following: Garmin Montana 600 Garmin AMPS rugged mount with power/audio cable RAM Mount RAM-B-138-GA46 RAM Flat Surface Mount for the Garmin Montana 600, 650 & 650t (note: I only used the mounting arm and...

Does anybody use a Garmin Montana 600 for sledding?

I also used a Ram mount for my installation, but I mounted my GPS on the other side of the riser block. I'm out of town working for another couple of weeks, but I'll post photos of my Garmin and Ram mount when I get home. If your sled doesn't have a battery, you can use accessory power...

Quest mountain Sicamous...Parts stole from broken sled......this is really low

Wow, I'm always amazed at the new lows to which these pieces of $hit are willing to descend. Just when you think it can't possibly get any worse, some lowlife decides to prove you wrong! I can't believe the lack of respect that some $hitbags have for other people's property. I have to wonder...

My Blown 55 Chevy is finished and debuted at World of Wheels

Now THAT is a sweet ride! It's great that you're actually going to drive it instead of just showing it and not being able to enjoy all the fruits of your labour. Maybe you can post when you'll be racing in Edmonton so we can see it run the quarter mile?

When did you start sledding in the mountains?

Wow! Cool photos. I feel like such a newb...I started sledding in 2003 and can't even imagine what it must have been like to bust into the alpine on a deep power day on some old iron. I've heard all the stories about spending all day busting trail just to reach the cabin and always thought it...

Does anybody use a Garmin Montana 600 for sledding?

Thanks. Photos would be great. A Ram mount (or similar) which offers some flexibility and which can be mounted to my riser is exactly what I had in mind. I don't want anything too rigid since I'd rather have the mount flex instead of break in case I hit something or roll the sled to get unstuck.

Does anybody use a Garmin Montana 600 for sledding?

Thanks for the info. Are you powering your Montana via batteries or external 12V power from your sled? If you're using external power, do you foresee any durability or reliability issues with the Garmin AMPS powered mount?

Does anybody use a Garmin Montana 600 for sledding?

Just looking for any feedback from anybody who may be using a Garmin Montana for sledding. I'm considering purchasing a Montana (probably a 600 since I don't need/want the built-in camera) for sledding. However, I'm a little concerned about how well the touch screen will function in the cold...

    ABS Escape?

I guess it depends on what you typically carry...I looked at the Escape 15, but didn't like the fact that you had to keep the shovel/probe inside the pack since these take up quite a bit of space. Also, I didn't like the idea of having to try and access the shovel without dumping the rest of the...

    Espar heaters pro's/con's

I have an Espar Hydronic 5KW heater on my 2008 Duramax & haven't had any issues so far. As crazy as it sounds, I run mine once in a while during the summer just to keep all of the seals, etc from drying out due to lack of use. I have the seven day timer and it works fine, but then again this...

Anyone Remember Who Makes This Older Rev Can?

It looks like NPP (Neil's Power Pipes - made in Edmonton) to me. I believe Specialty sources their silencers from Neil, but they're usually ceramic coated 'cause sledders like shiny things.

    testing a beacon

If you have access to a Pieps DSP beacon, they can check and display the frequency of the signal received from other beacons. The function is accessed by switching the Pieps DSP into "search" mode, then pressing and holding the "enter" button until "F---" is displayed on the screen. The beacon...

    digital beacons

I picked up two Pieps DSP beacons from Commercial Solutions in Edmonton last year for $389.00 + tax (each) last year. That was the cheapest price I could find at the time.
