What do you guys think about premixing extra oil in the gas tank as added insurance against a breakdown in the 1000 sdi engines? If ok then what ratio? Would this cause a overly lean condition?
There is some talk on the mach z dootalk site about adding oil to the fuel as additional insurance against the injectors washing too much oil off the pistons and causing premature piston failure. There is a suggestion that 100\1 mix may help. What I am wondering is if this would cause a leaner situtation especially in the mid rpm range which is already known to be quite lean to begin with? Any thoughts on this?
These are lean in the mid range. I run +2 at 5000RPM and up to +5 at 6700 RPM. Then down to -10 at 7800 RPM to see around the 1175* EGT range across the board. That was with the '06 programming. I wouldn't think running a 100:1 premix would have any dramatic effect on running conditions, including EGT's. I've been dooing similar to what Summitric has been doing with his octane booster; except I am running a gallon of VP fuel per tank.
I dont have a booney box or an egt guage so I cant see whats happening but if im understanding you guys correctly, you are adding octane boost to lower combustion temps by lowering the flashpoint. I see you are also running VP fuel, I am assuming it has a higher than 92 octane rating thereby reducing temps even futher. This has got me wondering what kind of temps were you seeing before using the box to richen the mid range?
THE OCTANE BOOSTER ALSO HAS LUBRICANTS IN IT, THAT'S WHY I LIKE RUNNING IT..... JUST A LITTLE ADDED INSURANCE.... WILL HAVE TO TRY SOME RACE GAS SOME DAY, BUT DON'T THINK IT WILL HELP MUCH. THE RACE FUEL WON'T BE AVAILABLE AFTER JAN 1/09 ANYWAY!!!
We can try a little race fuel this weekend.
EXCUSE, US BIG GUYS, BUGS, BUT THIS IS 1000 SKI-DOO ONLY TERRITORY, RIGHT GUYS!!!! LOL
