Seems like there's a lot of EV haters on here ...some glad the forum wasn't around when penicillin was created!

Electric will whoop ic in practically every scenario - battery tech / energy density is the holdup and its gotten much better and will likely continue ...how much gain has there been in ic efficiency over the last 10 / 20 / 30 years??

To the casual observer new ic engines are not much more efficient than those from 20 years ago and yes, we have a f250 plus run diesels in our commercial passenger vessel.

Warranty is warranty - its a moot point! Get over it!

Most passenger vehicles are worn out at 180 to 220 k anyway ...motor might still run but everything else is **** and then they become money pits!

I will have an ev once the range works for my needs and can't wait till theres a decent esled which would only make riding even better!

Please keep updating with real experience and not the drivel the net has from both opposing sides.

If you look at the history of the ram cummins, id say the engine today is way more efficient, emissions friendly than the 160hp engine it was when it was introduced.

The new ram cummins if very impressive at 400hp and 1000ftlbs of torque, my 95 freightliner that had a M11 cummins in it had 370hp and 1450ftlbs of torque. Now the big block cummins is 605hp and 2050ft-lbs.

anybody else remember the Ballard Fuel Cells? 30 years ago they were taking over. Technology doesn't always take over.

Actually Ballard got bought and then dissapeared. But not before getting the idea across. Some cities have buses that are hydrogen and man large ship bow use the Ballard cell for power when anch. With problem with the hydrogen cell was it required a separate fueling center where as electricity is already everywhere gas is and it's something that can be done from home.

Here are some numbers for energy consumption so far. Keep in mind my lifetime stats are missing 2000km (I reset it, oops) and a bulk of those km are from the polar vortex.



This is from today. Rated power consumption is 150wh/km.

That’s a very good point. Your garage becomes your “gas station”. Your vehicle fills up while you sleep and you start every day with a “full tank”.

Hydrogen fuel cells are also used in the forklift industry.

Probably used in many other places to, doesn't the space shuttle burn hydrogen? Either way it's more evidence that the technology did catch on

Hydrogen is great and abundant. Problem is, takes massive amounts of electricity to produce it. Of course, maybe it could be subsidized to make it cheaper....THATS efficiency.

More power still equals more fuel burn. The extra power is basically more fuel + more air + more rpm and not because they are magically more efficient ...some increase due to electronics but basically the same efficiency per gram of fuel.

Our 7.4 litre volvos are about 200 hp naturally aspirated but upto 480 hp with turbo, aftercooler + electronics suite but we burn a lot more fuel at 400+ hp. More power from the same block generally equates to a shorter rebuild or disposal interval.

The problem I see with hydrogen is the byproduct is water and in our winters our roads would become ice rinks

Nope just 35 years of driving canadian roads - especially where salt is used - destroys most light passenger vehicles within 220 k of use ....cheap or expensive there's little difference.
Maybe you guys who polish your tunnels have cars that last longer too!!! Maybe you're one of the guys on here asking 10k for a 5 year old sled??

if the tesla will go 1million miles that would be
really impressive. we had a desiel work Truck with over
750,000km. 3/4 ton

if your cars are finished at 180,000 km you must not be taking care of it at all.
