Air bag pressure for 1 ton trucks(only please)

I run the Firestone bags on my 2009 F350 SRW and run 10psi empty and like others have said, when I'm hauling or pulling, I measure empty 1st, then after I load up I add air to achieve the empty ride height.

I like to run 10-15 psi empty to try and take the weight off the springs and put it on air instead. Air rides nicer then springs.

Having good shocks with air bags is a must, bags bounce more. So it will feel like crap if you are running the stock 150,000 km shocks on them.

2500HD SRW (same weight capacity as a 3500) empty at 5psi, loaded with toyhauler at 50psi. 1350 lb pin weight

I have considered installing a levelling valve like a big truck.
me too. the only issue with that is requiring a tank. could probably do it without one, but my compressor is mounted under my console inside the truck. it's kind of loud

More work then what it's worth. Caddy has an air ride system that uses levelling valves. Very expensive set up. Need a compressor that turns on automatically when the tank reaches a certain pressure. You can do it but too much work.

it wouldn't be that big of a deal to rig up, a 12v air pressure switch to mount on the tank is less than 50 bucks. leveling valve and the tank would be the biggest expense. other than finding a good spot for the tank, rigging it up is easy for an old trucker like many #s

I have a tank and levelling ride height valve with compressor mounted under my dodge 3500 been on there since 2009 and still works good with a dual needle gauge (one for tank pressure and one for bag pressure) and a dump valve in the cab and a 120psi pressure switch on the tank

Those systems are news to me. I think I prefer to adjust air manually but when cash flow allows I will probably do the in cab set up.

Cheapest place I found was city spring. The wireless kit was about $530 with the pump. Then the price of bags on top of that.

Ill probably do the same as what I did with my bags and get them off amazon lol.

After reading these I'm definitely going to try the measuring way. Little harder after my camper is but definitely worth the try.

I think I will do both next time I hook up. Go by pressure and height. I lowered the pin box tonight on my trailer back to the factory holes. The last truck to haul it was a freightliner so the dropped it down to the lowest point.

Problem with doing the measuring system is the camper isn't equally weighed as one side has a slide out so getting accurate measurements​ might be difficult. Plus the bugger is heavy 3600lbs dry. Going to give it a go and if it doesn't look right will go back to the old way. Plus my hook up is at my license plate so once the camper is on its difficult to access. Next truck will have a mounted compressor with on board control I think.

That is a big camper. I mounted my fitting through the license plate as well but I can fill or deflate them when loaded...As long as my compressor will reach lol. I can do it fine at home but on the road might be more difficult.

I bought a 12v compressor from Newfie speed and wheel where I can set the pressure and it kicks out at whatever I set it to. Actually been super handy unit over the years.

With a 5th wheel you should have ample room to get in there for adjustment if needed
