Hello,This area used to be open to atv,s jeeps etc and then they closed it down but people still rode there without to many problems untill about 2001 and then they started handing out tickets etc..

Funny how the mine applied for permits to mine that whole area in 1994...the same year it was made into a wildland park.....think they just wanted us to get used to not riding there so they could mine it...??

Amyway I work at the mine and used to ride there too. I want to know if there is any interest in getting that area back to be able to ride? It would just be graveled trails but the cenery back there is awsome. We are almost done with that pit as far as I know and it would be nice to see the mine turn it back to the people now that we have moved all the mountains around...lol It actually does look nice after it's reclaimed..they have already reclaimed some areas.

Does anyone know how to go about all this? I will talk to our new mine manager. He seems to be a very easy going fellow and down to earth, not just some big hot shot.

Also if anyone has old camping/riding pictures of that area please post them!!!! I'm not looking for pictures that were taken last summer going into ruby falls, but older pics of before the mine went in there, so pre 2005. Thanks!

I have some old dirtbiking pics that I'll post later.

Good idea. would be nice to get something BACK for a change. Do you have any picas of the mined out area or is that not allowed.

We were there last year and there is still a trail open to the hill behind but they closed the trail from the Cardinal divide parking lot to the ridge trail. We were going to drive it but ran out of time. I believe it is for atvs only.

No not aloud to take pics for some gay reason?? But u could just ride up to Harris Mountain and see both pits..lol It's mind bogling how much earth we move...you have to work there to see it and believe it...but the work never stops 25/7 ..we're just like ants...lol we just take a mountain here and put it over there...lol

Yes they should keep it a no hunting area and just have designated trails like box canyon..you go off the trail you get a hefty fine... we will have a lake back there from the last pit mined out so u could ride and fish the lake once it's stocked..mountain bikers and hikers could have there own trails that are to small for atv's etc...all this could easily work but not many people know how to go about it...

Not sure what "hill behind" you mean but the trail at the cardinal divide has been closed for years. there is still tons of riding out there and normally I don't like to tell every tom dick and harry all our good riding spots...but this place is different because we're just going to be mining it in the next 20 years anyway....

We got a srd map that shows a trail just to the north of mountain park area, the staging area sucks but there is a sign there that indicates that it was the head of the trail. I realize that the Cardinal Divide trail has been closed for a while judging from the graffiti on the main sign board. The old maps show a trail to the east of there that looked like it joined up to the Mountain park trails but the new SRD maps don't show it ai all. Would like to go back there and do some exploring.

North...? I'd have to see it to know which one. The staging area you're prolly talking about is the one right across from or dry (office/change room area)at our mine...am I right?

Not much place to park but what ever, just park on side of road. Ya we will be mining that area in the next couple years so get out and enjoy it because at the rate we are taking down harris Mountain...won't be that long and we'll advance into that Mcload area.... Yes explore all you can and don't tred lightly! lol why bother, were going to rip it all up anyways...

And right across from the cardinal head waters trail there is another trail that leads to a valley..the mackenzie valley I think is what it's called...and were mining that in the next 20 years..so get out and ride those awsome wicked trails while u can...

Good video. Where is that area around the 12:30 mark? Your buddy was coloring the snow yellow. Whats remaining of that area? Is the mine in that area? My Dad took us into the Cardinal headwater in 1968 on Bikes. Long time ago now.

OMG! Thanks MadKawi for posting that video. Brought back so many great memories of my 1st time out in the Cadomin area at that time frame with my two brothers. Have since sold the dirt bike for an Atomic Sofa due to many physical "adventures" with the bike, but it still gets my blood flowing when I watch this video which covers a lot of the same ground we discovered, including the hail and crazy wind at that very same spot. We were at the same campsite as that at the start of the video and I remember freezing my a** off during the night and the snow slowly collapsing our tent with a foot of wet soppy snow all the while listening to my brother's camper's furnace (who was right beside us) cycle on and off throughout the night -- and this was at the beginning of July! The B**stard (;)) had actually locked his door and it took a number of wet snowballs smashing against his cozy shelter before he would let us in to warm up with the Shnaaps that we knew he kept in a drawer along with other life-sustaining liquids. Crowsnest Pass is my all-time favourite because of the vast amount of areas you can cover (for now) but Cadomin is a close 2nd. This is an absolutely fantastic and ruff-edged area that I intend to revisit, hopefully in the not too distant future, if it's still around....

Haha funny post. Ya i want to try crowsnest this summer.Where would i camp and stage from?

Cadomin has alot of great riding but slot of people just font know the area. We are now mining the harris valley...:( just started couple months ago and a few more trails are closed until we are out of there.
You can still get back towards Red Cap mountain though. Might as well ride it before we mine it...tread lightly... Ya right!!! Lol

Gregg river area is a snowbelt, lots of goodvriding there if u know where to go. Goingninto mystery lake is not great on a sled...
tons of cutlines all over. Just have yo explore. We rode some wicked pow all year long so far. Prepare to donthe odd willow wacking but the more sleds that use thevtrails the better. It helps withbthe willow control lol.

they shut atv's out of the area for 10 years to protect it.... for the mine!! after the mine is done there will be no atv access, it will be a park.
