The only people that get good fuel economy are the ones that lie about it. LOL Have had lots of oil burners and some get better economy and some get alot worse than a gas but the repairs and all the other crap with the poor fuel that we get i have found that the gas is cheeper to run and never see the dealer.
Just stop buy any of the big three when it hits -40 and they are full of the diesel trucks and hardly one gas. I use truck for work and get a new one every year to ever couple years so have tried quite afew.
With the new trucks and the trans.6 speed and right gearing these things pull like crazy but at higher RPM. You don't want to pull up beside what i have list with your lifted up chipped diesel (I had One with all the Banks kit)as you will not like the out come.

2011 F250 4x4 Crewcab LARIAT,6.2, 430 gears.
Sled deck unloaded 110kms=17 to18L/100 winter
Loaded with two sleds 110kms= 19.5 to 21L/100 winter
Pulling 10000lbs at 110kms=23Lto 25L/100

2011 F350 single wheel all stock with 41,000K, last trip 4 in truck two on deck, two on trailer (not inclosed). Set the cruise at 112 and got 19.4 L/100 to Valemount from Spruce Grove and 18.5 L/100 on the way home. Usually we travel at 120 and burn 1.5 L/100 more both ways.

2011 Dodge 3500, srw. all deletes done, flo-pro exhaust, airaid cold air intake, H&S tuner set to wild.
I hand calculate every tank, and still calculate back to MPG (never use the lie-o-meter) and getting 17-19mpg. Odo is 17,000kms.

2006 dodge 3500 srw. all stock but new cat back exhaust as the old one rusted out. Hand calculated, avg 19-20.5 mpg. Odo is over 660,000kms.

Sleds on deck rolls around 16-17L/100km

mpg could be better, once i stud her and do egr delete and a few custom tunes, could get it to 10 I think......

The key is no Cruise ;)

Heres some info for you. Bought a 2006 King Ranch crew cab long box 6 liter with 88000 kms on it out of the USA. It was completly stock with not even any mud flaps. Mint shape. Picked it up and drove 1180 kms on 128 L of fuel. Drove some city and 90%freeway at 120 kms.
Brought it home and put in shop and installed 7 inch lift,35inch toyo's ,box liner, sled deck,Banks big hoss kit with speeded brake and some mud flaps. Guess what??
700 to 750kms to 130L of fuel and all that changed was the crap i installed.
You want fuel mileage you run smooth tires no lifts or anything bolted to the truck and keep as light as possible.

You got nearly 1200k out of a tank of fuel? Our old 6L got 400k at best unloaded. Even my 6.4 unloaded is 500km.

2007 Dodge Ram 3500 Quad Cab longbox SRW 4x4, 3.73 gears, 6.7 cummins, 6 speed auto - truck always has a 100 gallon sliptank in back, never under 1/2 full, stock tire size, no lift, DPF & EGR delete. Winter fuel economy 15.5 L / 100 km including idling (mostly highway driving empty @ 115km/h). With 19' enclosed trailer with 3 sleds and tools on board: 20.6L / 100km. My 5.9's were way better on fuel, but they were all manual transmission, and didn't have the power of the 6.7L. Wife's 2011 F150 supercrew 4x4 with a 5.0L does 14.8 L/100km unloaded (combined idle and highway driving), 21L/100km pulling same traler, although it labors a bit in the hills - it also has 3.73 gearing.

I guess I have nothing to bitch about with my Big block! was thinking about putting it on propane but for this year it is not cheap.......$4500 just not worth it!

99 GMC 4x4 ext cab 454 with 155 000 km

Mods
custom duel exhaust
cats removed
K&N cold air intake
right side O2 sensor malfunction (leaning right bank out giving me 1-2 mpg better fuel milage)
ingnition syestem all new
Lucas syth oil in diffs and engine.....will do tranny when I service it one day!

stock drivetrain with 265/75/16 BFG AT, Automatic tranny with overdrive, box removed with custom Alum flat deck

now with the 454 my gas mileage should suck but on the highway doing between 100-130 KM/hr I get between 18-19 average.....I did get once 21 MPG empty......

18 MPG going from Sicamous to kelowna with a turbo yamy on the back is pretty much the norm!

but in town pulling my equipment I get about 9-11 mpg

here is a few calculations I have

661 km to 96 liters or 389 miles to 21.14 gallons = 18.40 miles per gallon on highway at 100-120km/hr with sled on. had to use jerry can to get me to gas station on this one! lol never leave home with out one! lol 14.5 liters/100km

358 km to 45 liters or 210.5 miles to 9.9 gallons = 21.26 MPG at highway speed empty! this has been one of my best! 12.57L/100km

since my engine light came on (right bank O2 sensor running rich so engine is trying to lean it out).....I got 1-2 more MPG so if I got a programmer or custom chip to lean out the other side I think I could get 22 MPG easy! I also heard the 454 likes a supercharger and if you stay out of the fun foot you can get another 2-3 mpg, but I just don’t want to F^$K with it since I'm getting great mileage.....for a gas engine

I don’t even want to post my in town figures....or a trip to Alberta with car trailer with 8400 pounds on it......these suck, but still pull the hills at 110 plus.....

I seem to get better all around gas mileage than a friend that has the exact same truck except his is a 96 with a 350 and he has his box on instead of my alum flat deck.....I get about 2-3 more miles per gallon with the 454.......but don’t get me wrong.....when my foot goes down so does the gas mileage. I was thinking about a diesel, but I thought if it breaks down, I have to pay some one to trouble shoot it and fix it......with my big block I do all my own work.....and a diesel I think cost more for maintenance.....plus all these new diesel need major work between 100 000-200 000 km....was thinking about an older 12v Cummings if I was going to go that way. but I got my GMC 454 with 123000 km last year and it is a great work truck for what I need it for.......plus 2 sleds fit on it great!
