These Android boxes are all fine and dandy if you want to spend the time dicking around looking for a high quality stream, which may or may not be reliable. My problem is live sports in HD, and free streaming for that leaves a LOT to be desired. So for now, I'm stuck paying my $120 / month Bell bill.

Bringing this thread back to life again. Telus called today wanting to offer a "great promotion". After it was all said and done I was pretty impressed with what they were offering me for our landline/cell and switching over to Telus Satellite TV. Basically cut our bills in half and offering more channels. So my question is for the people who live out in the country like myself - if you have switched over to Telus Sat TV- are you happy overall with the signals, programs, etc? Or do you find that Bell/Shaw has superior satellite still. I grilled Telus hard about the service part and they assured me that if I wasn't happy that they would allow me to cancel everything. Thanx in advance for your responses.

We had Telus (Bellus) Satellite while living in town for several years. I was actually very impressed with their service, pricing, and lineups vs. what was being offered by Starchoice at the time. We had actually moved from Starchoice to Telus for these reasons. Neither Bell or Starchoice could match what Telus had to offer due to their bundling or customer loyalty discounts since we were Telus phone customers as well. We only lost service a couple of times during heaving rain and lightning storms.

I know you live in the country but once Telus Optik became available I was probably one of the first to move over to it in Camrose and haven't looked back. Telus invested tons of money in their fiber infrastructure in Camrose (and several other municipalities) making their Optik TV available as well as much FASTER Internet speeds. Since they own the service and are not purchasing it from someone else (like their Satellite TV) they can offer much better monthly rates and bundling packages.

That being said, the Alberta government should be doing much more to assist in providing high-speed Internet to its more remote and rural regions. The time is coming when high-speed Internet will be a necessity and not just a luxury.

We live 20 min outside of Sherwood Park, was with Bell for 15 years, got tired of their crappy service both programming and support ….enter a TELUS promotion, phoned Bell and gave them the opportunity to match the offer to keep a long term customer…..

Recently had some issues with a year old PRV, TELUS had a rep out the next day, checked it out, confirmed it was flakey, and replaced the unit..

Would still like some different choices re programming, but way better service then Bell…

I bought an android box and it is the best thing I have bought since the good ol days with the pirated direct tv dish. I don't give a rats ass about sports but I believe it isn't the best for that but otherwise it is Netflicks on steroids and I will be cancelling my satellite in the new year. I watch movies in hd that are not even at the cheap theater yet and have paid for the box already just in the cash I saved from not going to the theater. It has all pay per views you want and every show imaginable. It also has every kind of hbo series and documentaries, you name it and it is there. The only problem is if you are in the country you may not be able to get fast enough internet but that is improving all the time. My cost was $245.00 with no monthly fees ever! If you are a surfer this is not for you though as it takes some time to navigate to your show but there is no commercials either so another bonus. Overall I am quite happy and will be looking forward to free awesome t.v whenever I can get time to watch it.

I bought my box form a guy off kijiji and just picked him randomly, he wasn't anything special so I won't recommend him. If you want to google the box it is MINIX by android and that will give you all the specs. I also paid $20.00 more for the better remote because the one that came with it is a p.o.s really. I am considering becoming a dealer in the red deer area because no one is selling them here but first I need to learn more about them.

Just remember that it is in the same realm as FTA and hacked Sat cards....stealing pay channels. The Android box does not come from Bestbuy or wherever all equipped to steal PPV, there is pirate 3rd party software added to it. If you become a dealer, you will be the target when the powers that be rise up to enforce the laws.....

Can't get Telus Optik due to our location north of Gibbons, AB.

Updated our Internet package to 60Gb Add another $80. Burn up gigs in 15 to 20 days and spend the rest of the month waiting for the Netflix to load.
Went to the local Movie rental place (yes we still have one) and rented $100 worth of movies for the month... best deal I have found so far. No wait times, HD and Blue ray for my 60" HD tv...
I am thinking of going back to basic tv package and renting movies again. Or buying them from Walmart for 5 for $25.

I'm so glad I went to optik TV I highly recommend switching when fibre optic is offered in other areas.

Have this android box.... Definalty not the best thing in life

we discussed it tonight with another couple that have it, some nights it can take up to half hr to find a sever that works, some nights we lose it threw the feed threw the show, some nights it just does not work, and some nights it will be quick and work fine.. What night is tonight is the big question..

remote sucks on them( to the point of almost giving up)and you need to pick severs on the show you want to see, and most are dead...I watched the dumb and dumber a few nights back and it was a guy recording it in a theather and harder to hell to hear show and you can here the guy laughing with the vid camera, actually heard him fart..Another night you will find a feed with Chinese writing along 1/3 of bottom of channel... And almost never do you find a feed that looks great on your big screen, even thou it says hd

so don't get me wrong, but not sure if I would waist my time buying one of these pieces of crap, as my wife refers to it.. We use net flix much more and it's video and sound are far superior..

we we also have the full Dishnet package and have had this last five years now, prior to that direct tv and before that we were hacked direct tv

i would say the Dishnet is ok, but we have five receivers on our account and we are hitting 155$ a month, in U.S. currency..we have the full hd package so we do have lots of hd channels, but just like most of you, only watch about 20 channels in total... We do like the hbo movie Chanel's and news channels.. Kids like their shows

but even dishnet is nothing like the older hacked direct tv that had open Ppv and porn... That decade was the best we ever had.. And made some great coin over that

i wish I would of got the hacked gen two Apple tv, heard good stuff over that and much better quailty, is there anyone running that... I would like to here their results
