First I would like to thank you for contributing to Snow and Mud. We can always use people with knowledge...and now I would like to pick your brain.

I'm extending my 2001 800 RMK from a 151" stock track to a 159 x 2 - 16" wide.
What gearing do you think will work best?

Currently it pulls real wel in the mountains with the 151 track.

well if is the same gearing as an 02 rmk 151 stock is 21:41 ratio with 74 pitch chain, the 159" model calls for 19:39 gears with 72 pitch chain, but if you like to keep the same chain you can go to 20:41 ratio with 74 pitch chain. both ways work out to 2.05 gear ratio . whatever is easiest for you. if you haven't bought the track yet cycleworks south has a series4 track 15 x 159 x 2 1/8" for $650 . a good price. had one left

do you have a aftermarket tunnel 16in track is going to be a tad tight on the sides you going to extend the length to seems like a lot of expence when a 15in would do

No, have a stock tunnel, did research and if you shim (where bots are) with washers there is no problem fitting it in...I HOPE!!!

yes sled bunny shime with washers where your skid goes and it will work with no problems. make sure you spin the track in the garage first before riding so it will self center and you are on your way.

The only downfall to putting a 16 wide in a stock tunnel is that you cut down the cleanout area, results in more snow being carried in your tunnel and skid.:nono:

I also ported my track on my zx 800 mod 159". makes a big difference in the build up of snow. used a hole saw, heated it up till it was glowing, push it through so it melts the cords instead of pulling and tearing them. P.S. its a stinky job. outside recomended. You also shave off quite a bit of weight. Cool idea with the pam spray, only stands to reason.:specool: I use it on my quad after washing, the skegger comes right off. Never thought of my sled.

I buggered around with my gearing for months found that 2.05 worked the best for me. There is a few combinations 21-43 , 20-41, 19-39 all equal 2.05 I stuck with 21- 43. You want to make sure yuor belt runs high on your clutches, if not you will likely will have belt issues.
Hope this helps you out.
