Has anyone switched out their top gear to a 20 tooth? what's the pros and cons?
Based on your signature, I'm guessing you have a 2013 M8, which has 2.33:1 gearing (21/49 gearset). Going to a 20 tooth upper sprocket will regear the sled to 2.42:1, which works very well in the hills and reduces clutch heat. The 2014 and up I believe use 19/50 for a ratio of 2.63:1. In my personal opinion ONLY, the 19/50 is too low, and track speed suffers as a result. If you primarily ride your sled locally, keep the stock gearing to minimize overshift and keep RPM in check. But if you pretty much only ride in the mountains, the 2.42:1 ratio is ideal in my humble opinion, as it loads the motor a bit harder then the 19/50 gearset as found in the 2014 and up M800.

I couldn't agree more. My 2012 at 20/49 made way better track speed and pulled ALOT harder in the middle of a climb than the 19/50 in my '14. Enough so that I just installed a 20/49 Hyvo kit in my '14. The 19/50 just feels like it holds the sled back. Revs are there but you aren't going anywhere.

Another vote for 20/49. Had 21/49, then switched to 20/49, and then 19/50 on my 13. Went back to close to the 20/49 ratio when I went to a belt drive.

Yep, Another vote for 20/49.

On my '12 i originally tried just the 20t from SLP, then with the 'updated' 19/50 set. Went back to the 20/49, Its the best all around. I have the Dalton adj weights that took quite abit of tinkering to find the happy place.

Do you know how much the gearing change is when you install the 7 tooth driver that comes with the 3" track? Thanks
Going to a 7 tooth driver is basically using 89%. So a 2.42:1 ratio with 8 tooth drivers will equate to a 2.63:1 final drive ratio with 7 tooth. Personally, I went with 2.33:1 with 7 tooth for a final ratio of 2.56:1

Correction: I looked yesterday while doing some pre season maintenance. Using a 2.21:1 ratio with 7 tooth drivers on my 3", final drive ratio is 2.45:1
