The older I get and the more I learn buying princess auto quality things is a sure way to get burned just buy a reputable name brand from the get go. My most recent waste of money an Amazon smart battery charger… unfortunately not so smart died after about 3 months, 5 uses, $80 down the tubes, so off to crappy tire to spend $150 on a noco.

Are they clones or part of the Asian counterfeit rings.

Ypu get what you pay for it but if I can buy a 300 saw or a brand name 1000 saw, for the small amount I'm using it, u can buy 3 cheap ones and throw some parts at it now and then.

I'm 1000% about quality but in today's economy, you need to try to save where things make sense. No sense in having $1000 sitting on the shelf for the 2 or 3 days I'd be cutting a year

I have $1500 saws in my garage, they were used professionally and have seen a lot of use over their 25 years of life.

Nothing like dicking around with a saw that doesn't run properly out in the bush. The difference in price is literally a day or two of sledding or a tunnel bag. When you consider the savings over the length of ownership, I don't see the value. The Husky/Stihl have a proven track record and good parts availability. If I was getting a saw for cleanup or the occasional use, I would be going electric anyway.

So I decided I'll mod my poor little 170. I bought a walbro wt-215 carb (an actual walbro, not a Chinese clone...calm down fellas), add actual metal dogs, advance the timing, mod the muffler and maybe a different chain that I'll keep extra sharp.

Should cut about 25% faster.

The little saw is great but it would chug through the bigger stuff, which is normal. I'll clean up the yard with this and when this goes, I'll upgrade to a red or orange 50-60cc saw.

So doing a complete 180 here. Modded my 170 with actual dogs, muffler mod and a new adjustable carb and its a whole new saw.

That being said, I'm going to do the buy once and cry once and most likely get a new ms 261 this week as long as I can hide it from my wife.

Father in-law bought a knock off husky, you would actually be ssurprised how good it does compared to my 435 and at a fraction the cost. That being said mine is 20+ years old, see how many he goes through in that time I guess

It’s really nice how the 170 never leaks a drop of anything, that reason alone it’s my go to saw unless there’s enough cutting to do with the bigger ones.

Knowing nothing about chainsaws, and never owning one before, I bought an Echo, and it runs great so far.

I've heard nothing but good things about echo.

Google 170 mods. For $40 you can get a knockoff walbro carb and some good dogs. Take a Dremel to your muffler and it is a completely different saw. Took me 10min to tune the carb and it rips now. Starts with 2-3 pulls cold.

No I haven't. I will probably grab one on Amazon. For now I was going by the 4 stroking sound. Clean while loaded up and then if I back it out of the wood a bit, it 4 strokes. Mind you, I'm completely new to this. Got 3 tanks through it today and still running for now haha

Bigger is sometimes better...ehem...but for saws, I'm a small guy. Barely 160lbs. I don't want something too heavy. The 261 felt just right.
