    Turbo sled insurance

Hey everybody, first post on the forum. Iím having a heck of a time trying to get insurance for my sled. Nobody seems to want to insure a turboíd sled. Best I could find was cooperators wanted $800 a year for just fire/theft comprehensive, seems a little high. Whatís everyone else doing? Itís a 2016 axys 163 with the redline kit running 7psi. I told them I valued the sled at $21,000.

Harvard Western in Kronau Saskatchewan is where I go through.

At its very basic level the broker or agent you're dealing with is likely getting concerned about the turbo. Doesn't know how to explain it, what its for, likely hasn't ridden a machine before.

One of the basic questions that comes to mind for a broker in personal lines is: is the vehicle modified for speed or performance?

So when you tell them that it is, by means of saying "its turbo'd" they likely get concerned, declare it (as they should) and either get declined or come back with an outrageous price. You need to be dealing with a broker who understands snowmobiling and who can put together a business case and explain it to the insurance company. No broker bats an eye when you add a Duramax or Ecoboost - they have turbos. Its a total lack of understanding and advocacy.

If you're continuing to have issues - I am an insurance broker - send me a text, 780-920-1275 and I'll see if I can help you out.

    Cheers,
    Grant

    Re: Turbo sled insurance

Don’t value your sled more then it will sell for. To reasons 1 they will just refuse to insure it a 16 turbo Axys goes for 14-17 on kijiji 17 being more mods then your most basic turbo. To if something happens to it they will looks for others that have similar mods and you need proof of what you have. If you over value it only makes it harder to insure and your not going to get payed out that amount ever anyway. I’ve been through this 9 turbo sleds and I have had 1 stolen years ago
