The York Creek Basin itself is a big rock basin facing east, maybe a bit north east, with sort of 3 bowels. Basically no trees on the center and north bowel, but some on the south bowel. I guess that would be an area mostly for climbing, and side hilling through the trees. There are trees at the bottom of the bowels obviously.
If you continue along the trail going south, you can basically head into any of the basins along the trail, some of them have trails into them, and others you have to break trail through the trees and along creek bottoms.
About 20 miles south of Coleman, there is a safety shelter, and from there you can access cut blocks which are more like rolling hills, and more of a boondocking areas.
This is a great area, but doesn't seem to be getting the snow it did 4 or 5 years ago.
Hope this helps.
