Any one run the 2010 M8 against the 09/10 M1. The Hp is pretty close but with the higher torque is the m1 still the way to go.

yep, we did, last easter we had 2010 in mcbride. its pretty close to the m1
the m1 takes it mid and on top, the m8 is strong all the way through but not as strong as the m1? thats my take. i had an 07 m1 with pipe kit, reeds,
timing key. the works....dont think i tweeked m8 will touch a tweeked m1

but thats my two cents...plus the fact that u can buy a new 08 m1 for 10k out the door now....well.....

thanks for the info. what about mods on the m1 for a gain of aproxx 20 hp or something to get me back close to stock hp at elevation what might be the best way to go.

As said previously, a tweeked M8 won't touch a tweeked M1. A good place to start is the addition of an SLP or Speedwerx pipeset, BD box or PC3 to help fueling, and more airflow.

I would say if you are playing around in the trees or climbing in tighter spots where quicker handling is necessary an M8 is the way to go. If you are climbing straight up an open hill the M1000 is gonna go higher. Just my 2 cents.

I prefer the M8

I have both. 09 m1000 162 snopro pipe, can.y pipe, boondocker, big intake horn ect.. 2010 m8 162 snopro, can. the 1000 will outclimb the 8 but overall the extra weight isnt worth it.I only ride the 1000 if the boy or gf is along to ride the 8.

ya dont forget the weight difference between the two

Once the suspension is set up - the weight isn't really noticeable. Out of the box, the M1 is nose heavy (cause it is carrying a bunch more motor). Losing the suitcase muffler will drop about 15 lbs, moore if you use a lighter can then SLP. If you are a bigger person or an aggressive rider I doubt you'll notice the weight if the skid is set up properly.
