I was parked in a lot to go sledding, a dump truck pulling a tripple axle trailer was turning around to pick up a tractor. I could see he was having trouble making the turn, so I moved my truck to try and give him some room. I went to the passenger side to put some gear inside, thats when I noticed the damage. As I was inside that door right before the trailer and noone else was in the lot, also the matching paint on his trailer I am certain it was him. I told him he hit my truck after looking at it he agreed it was him.
Now the question is the truck is worth about $2500.( 1992 ford f 250 custom 4x4). I don't want to screw the guy, accidents happen...But I would like it fixed. What would you do?? Thanks for the advice, Mike

If its on a private parking lot insurance might not be the way to go

They usaully class it a as a knock for knock situation

The same thing happened to me the vechile that hit my car wanted to pay without going through insurance but when they found out the damage cost $3500 they went through insurancs I ended up getting my car fixed but still had to pay half my deductable

This is the way to go , not saying they will put it through their insurance , they may pay it out of pocket. Either way his fault he pays

that sucks man, you can always turn it into humor and draw "shyt'll buff out" or "my wife did this" on the scrape. Although I would repair it; sand paper, primer, rattle can, elbow grease and a six pack should take car of it...
HIs insurance would be the best approach though.

Hey Man I have a '95 XLT worth about the same as your's! Doesnt matter that is old and cheap...he still damaged and should pay...I'd make a little "deal" with the guy...Say its 1000 to fix...tell him you'll take 500 and forget it happened! No insurance, no hassle. move on!

So I called my insurance and filed a claim, I have liability only which I knew, then I called the guy to give him a heads up, he seemed fine with it.
I had to laugh, 42 years old and this is my first insurance claim:d:d at least it wasn't my fault. Now I guess I just wait to see what his insurance company says....I guess now it takes a little pressure off my 15 year old daughter to start driving it soon.

The truck will be Written off no questions asked if you go threw insurance. They will pay you Bluebook.

They basically write anything over 10Y/o OFF as they see it as a hazard on the Road, even though i bet you that trucks more solid then any you can buy today.

insurance can be a hassle.

i had a guy change lanes into my car last week and i'm just gunna leave it alone. filled out the accident report and all that jazz so he can't turn around and get me. there are tire marks down my fender.

if that was a newer truck then it would be worth it but really lets not kid ourselves, for all the crap you are going to have to go through to get that chit fixed.....

No always true...

I did $8000 damage to my 1995 BMW and was sure it was going to be a write-off....

they fixed it...

They can't justify writing it off for a door ding & scrape...

Just got the first update, now (suddenly) he is not so sure he did it. I have pictures of paint transfer to his trailer. Funny when I spoke to him earlier he said no problem just have your insurance call mine. Somenone on here said that this might be a pain, I'm thinking they might be right.

Yea that's happened to us before, sorry I'll pay for the damages, here's my info, they are all okay with it. Then you get a call from there insurance company requesting more than what their piece of junk is worth to fix.

I think white scrapes is when you scrape the polish coat and that gray is metal.

From the picture, yea he rubbed against your truck for sure.

I called the adjuster from his insurance and left a message offering a witness statement from a guy who was there and the photos of the damage to my truck and the trailer with blue paint on it. We'll see what that does to expidite the process. I'll admit this conflicts me a bit I try to be a nice guy, Karma and all that.

Been in the same situation. Had to have a police accident specialist come out and look. I had photos, measurements and even got the girl to write a statement saying she did it. Then she started to deny it. I was told by the cop that without a witness it was hard to settle.

Keep up the fight. His insurance co will do anything to get you to walk away. Maybe contact the guy directly and see if he is willing to give you cash for the repair, he just might.

Good luck!

They'll write it off. Be careful. Happened to me years ago when I was in college...drove a POS 1980 Dodge Omni 024 (2 dr hatch) and the back window got smashed out. Turns out the back window was worth more than the car. I'm like, "hey dude...I'm in frickin college here...I can't just go buy another car". So I cancelled the claim, found a used window at the auto wreckers for 75 bucks and called in a favor to get it put in. I hate insurance companies.
