Conversation with a buddy about how technology changed leads me to wonder.

For me it was the 98 700 RMK. You were UNSTOPPABLE with one of of these wedges. Some people *cough LHF) apparently still are....

Makes me wonder what my kids will say about my sleds in 15, 20, 30 years...

This could be interesting! Let's hear it guys!

1991 Indy 500 sks with hard paddles, my first longtrack, I was 18 when I got it in 1992, it had DG pipes, dial-a-jets.....totally badass

I didn't get into mountain riding til recently but the 2010 M8 was my dream sled and I bought an 11 the following year and now I think they're outdated in comparison to the new chassis but they are still capable, still my backup too

I remember my 670 Summit X making easy work of those sleds and the 800's that came after. Before that though the XLT with a set of pipes was a contender against the tank that was the original Summit.

Ah the early 90's, when we had to bolt 20lbs of plastic 'angle iron' to our tracks to gain an advantage.

In 95 I had a RMK 600 with triple pipes. In 97 I had the same sled...bulkhead and hood anyways...."tunneled" (longer tunnel),141x2, D&R, with a piped 670....was the shiznit back then.

'97 XLT 600, started as a stocker. Then pipes, heads, 144x2" and a few other goodies. At one point i didnt think it could get much better.

1969 Moto-ski Zephyr. First long track sled made. Actually had enough room for 3 people. With 18hp and one cylinder it didn't go fast, but it just kept on going. The Snowcruizers in those days were close with high/low range, but didn't quite go as far in the deep stuff, being a fair bit heavier.

Ya, I've been mountain riding for a long time. :D

the first "mountain" sleds I saw that worked were home built one offs, and "worked" means they just went better than stockers like the '85 mx I had....one was an old srx or srv, with a 470 liquid cooled rotax (same that was in my '85 but a hundred pounds lighter) and an old el tigre with plastic paddles. even after doo came out with the summit those old sleds still worked as good. in '97 things seemed to change, the new s chassis summit and the 700 RMK were the sleds to have, but the 136 t-cat ruled over them for the highmark.

Same as tantrumpipeline, only been riding about 4 seasons. The 2010 m8 162 was a hot item and the etec was just coming out.

I started off with an Indy 500 with a whopping 1/2 inch by 136" track! Took me 12 tries to make the hill coming back out of Turbo. Had to work for everything. Then got to test ride a '93 Storm 750 and promptly snow-checked a '94 Storm 800. Several sets of pink plastic paddles later I was thrilled to swap out the track for a 141 Camoplast 2" with rubber paddles. Nothing like changing jets at -20 C on the side of a hill. Had to stuff the air intake with a rag just to keep it running rich enough not to burn down on the trail. Wicked sounding sled with triple pipes!

1983 Yamaha SRV 540, I was riding a 1980 Mirage II and a neighbor had one at Allan creek with us new then and thought if only one day......

grew up with an Ellan single carb,1970 something panther (440)…nordic 136…377 rotax single carb.then dad bought a Indy Sport 340.man that front suspension was the bomb!!

My first day in the mountains was on a 583 summit!!!would have bin a fun day if i did't fall off at the top of a turn out like a turd and the rental ghost rid all the way down into a tree!!I have bin hooked ever since.

First time to the mountains was on a 1984 Phaser 116" Orangepeel track LOL!! Literally held throttle open fired it up and never let off till stuck or wanted to stop! Then bolted some plastic to it!! Thought I'd died and gone to heaven when a 136 1" track came out. Bolted one of those on and built a crude tunnel ext on!! That thing went anywhere at the time LOL!! New 174 track is longer than my whole sled was hahaha

First "mountain" and I use that term loosely was a 95 zrt600 heavy ass triple that I stretched to a super extreme length 141" track ;) that ol sled worked the crap outta every muscle in my body

First trip up to Valemont was on a 1995 Yamaha V-Max 500. Changing the jets on those things back in the day was such a pain in the azz. Hooked every since though!

many moons ago, I had an '80 TXC340. Cut and tapered the tunnel, install the track backwards, try anything to make it go better in the mountains. The trip in, we would carry a 5 gal jerrycan of gas on the seat between my knees.
Then I purchased a real mtn machine, 91 sks500. Twin pipes, woohoo, I was the king. Still had a blast, just hard to compare to today.........how times have changed.
