I am looking to buy a used diesel 4x4 cc. I have never been a Chev guy but I am open to change. Can anyone give me a general break down of year/vs pros and cons?

Also interested to know about the Dodge with Cummins and 6sp auto.

I am already familiar with the Fords and have not ruled them out either.

Thanks.

'01-03, LB7 Motor, had some injector problems and they were quite labor intensive to repair.

04-06 LLY, injector issues cleared up for the most part after 05 I think, some LLY's run hot if you're towing a lot.

06.5-07 LBZ. considered the best motor by some, lacks some emissions equipment in newer models.

07.5-10 LMM is an LBZ with emissions stuff.

go to dieselplace.com and read your heart out!

im a ford guy so my opinions might be biased a bit
1999.5 to 2003 7.3L were great a little down on hp and some of them eat cam pos sensors but will run forever!!
2003-2005 6.0L DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!! too many issues to list
2006-2007 6.0L getting better but not great, 07's were good
2008-2001 6.4L super tuff engine and trans but you have to chip them and get rid of the emmisions crap or there horible on fuel
Ive had 1 7.3 it was a great truck sold it at 440000kms
2 -6.4L's both were chipped from new, never had a issue, sold my 08 at 98000kms and my 10 has 50000kms so far

any year dodges motors are super tuff and reliable but the trans are garbage if you mod them, the 2007+ are good but you need to pull the emissions stuff too to get good mileage

duracraps lots of injector issues, dont like to run when its cold, limp mode is there favorite tune lol but they do drive nice and there fast if you chip them.

2004 duramaxes were bad for injectors, the rest are still good. they dont go into limp home mode as much as you say

As much as i like the room in a ford i would never buy one. We have about eight f450's for company vehicles and the amount of time they spend in the shop is a joke. turbo's, diff's.
Maybe if you don't pull lots they may be ok.
