Under Water

New to site and need a little info.Just found out, by accident,the '07 Summit the hubby bought has spent a little time under water. What should he be concerned about(other than the fact he bought a Bombi in the first place,Yammi girl here,700 grizz ,'05 RX1), any thing he can do as a precautionary measure? The sled starts and seems to run ok in the garage but are real nervous now. Thanks Sunny:beer:

i sunk my 07 to and if every thing was cleaned real well and lubricated then i'm sure it will be fine maby check the carb bowls for sand and grit and check the chain case oil etc give the rear skid a good grease job and clean the clutches. it could either be real bad or nothing at all just check it over and let us all know

I'm not talking from experience but from what I've heard unless it was dirty silty water that entered the engine it should be fine.

Maybe our very own under water Specialist (JoHNI_T ) will chime in here and give you some pointers.....LMAO!!

i sunk me 2 stroke dirt bike before and all i ad to do was drain the gas/carbs, and ampty the pipe and grease it up again

If the seat foam didn't get dried out you will have one very hard seat come cold weather.

from having owned many a jetski-seadoo type crafts, when you semerge them just right them, get them to shore, pull out the spark plugs, and hit the start button, water shoots straight out.

beauty about a two stroke is its simplicity. not very many electronics!!

my brother dropped his in the sturgeon north of edmonton last fall, we got her out, but man was his but cold on that seat the ride home!!!!!!!!

if the electronics check out, then you should be fine!!

Have had a few seadoos also - water in the motor good way to scuff pistons.

Hi there,
Sorry to hear about your sled purchase! Here a few things you may want to check out on your sled prior to use.
Check the crankcase oil before starting it. If its the color that oil should be, fire it up to operating temp 10-15 mins on idle. Shut the sled down re-check the crank case oil, if its white and frothy water has seaped into the crank case. Completely drain the crank case oil, and you will have to flush new oil through it until all the white has dissapeared. You may also want to inspect the chain case for contaminated oil and repeat the same process until you have clean oil showing upon drainage. I have had to do this for a sled and a quad I've owned in the past due to river crossing. As some have mentioned in above posts, check your carb bowls if applicable and flush with fresh fuel and you may want to run a rust inhibitor for the first 100K or so then drain your fuel bowls once more. If the 07 sled is EFI you may want to invest in injector cleaner and experiment with that until your sled idles smoothly. Sorry to hear that you have bought a water damaged sled. I can imagine the excitement of a new purchase but not what it would be like to find out after the history of the sled... Did you at least get it cheap???

Oh and you may want to grease all the suspension nipples with a few new pumps to force out any water, and lubricate rusting bolts if any... I'm by no means a certified mechanic, but I grew with dirt bikes, quads, sleds, argo's etc... and have learned how to wrench on my own machines... For true peace of mind you could take your sled to a certified sled shop and have them inspect it, and inform you what needs to be repaired before you start relying on your sled to get you places... Just a thought... Good luck to ya guys.

ITS A 2 STROKE SKIDOO. Not the RX 1ton. just make sure you go through everything. chaincase,carb bowls, etc. Other than that Another good thing to do is take all of the electrical connections apart and blow them out with a air gun or a can of computer duster air and put some die electric grease in them. But other than that just keep and eye on things.

YOu gotta take it all apart and put it back together with fresh grease and oil. A good shop vac will help (you won't have to take the bottom end out). Once you got it back together you have to run it for a while (until you feel the engine is hot enough to get rid of all the residual water). Should take about a full day and not one of those days in garage with buddies n beer.

Don't mess around and take short cuts. It ain't a big deal if you deal with it properly, but if you take short cuts you might as well take the easy road and just buy a new motor cause that is what you will end up doing if you try shortcuts

do not forget the fuel pump friend of mine sunk his 02 work fine in shop but when took out in cold would not pump fuel vacuum side still full 3 months into 2nd season

JohniT!!!! Your sled went swimming?!?!!

Hahaha. This must have been in the spring?

Best thing with a two stroke after it has had it's drink is to get it running. The beauty of a 2-stroke is self lubrication! The heat from the engine evaps the remaining moisture.

Not much of a worry after that point. I'd be a hell of a lot more worried with a 4-stroke.
