If you bought a Lotto Max ticket in December, take note: A $50-million dollar ticket sold in Edmonton remains unclaimed.
The sole winner of the huge jackpot bought the ticket Dec. 20, says the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC).
The numbers drawn were: 2, 13, 18, 24, 27, 37, and 43.
“It’s not uncommon for people to forget about their lottery tickets, especially tickets purchased at such a busy time of year,” WCLC’s Andrea Marantz said. “We urge everyone to think back and look for tickets, even if it isn’t for the December 20th draw. We love to see our players claim all prizes - from Free Plays to the jackpots.”
In 2011, a Calgary woman presented a $4 million winning ticket just two days before it expired; it had sat for months in an old purse she’d stopped using because of a broken handle.
If the $50 Million prize is not claimed by December 20, 2014, it will be the largest unclaimed prize to date across Canada. Currently, the largest prize in Canada to have expired unclaimed was a $14.9 Million Lotto 6/49 prize from June 2006. That ticket was purchased somewhere in Alberta, but not in Edmonton or Calgary.
Prizes that are not claimed before their 1-year expiry date are returned to players in the form of additional prizing through the national unclaimed prize fund, often resulting in bigger jackpots than sales support, or are returned through special bonus draws and promotions.
This Friday’s Lotto Max jackpot is $15 million.
