There are essential businesses open obviously. Wife was leaving the grocery store today, young employee who sanitizes each customer informed a family of 5 who got out of a out of province vehicle that only one person per family. The dad beaked off about "what a joke" and they all stormed off.
All BC parks now closed.
Still think this is BC vs Alberta?
Vancouver residents traveling to Squamish helped this closure.
Squamish locals now pissed
Won't be long before crown land is closed too.
Argue all you want next step will be border closures if people don't quite moving around border closures will happen.

just heading back from a few days in the valley. ice fishing at Cartwright and white swan. awesome this time of year. you must go.

anyways, stayed at my property. not a shared dwelling. did not get within 30 feet of any locals. i knew that public shaming may occur if i dared stopped at any public establishment(seeing how i wasn't a hillbilly local on my way for more weed) so i stopped at Calgary, got my groceries, packed my gas, bought my beer, et, et. by doing so, saved myself about 20-30% on final bill that i normally spend buying out there. will be my modus operandi going forward. but back to your comment about border closures.

Radium hotel/motels open. parking lot empty. vacancy signs on. gas stations open. no vehicles. grocery stores open. no cars. tim hortons open. not 1 car in the drive through.

and all this occurred without a "RDEK mandated border closing". and the local businesses felt it. and they will continue to feel it.

take a minute and think about how many of you, your family, your friends, your relatives earn a living directly or indirectly off of tourism in the valley.

my question is, did RDEK consult any of these business owners before they started this pissing match with their stand? doing their interviews, grandstanding like they are? bunch of DB's.

Only taking easterners money/tax money when they deem they shall allow the unclean into their region??

careful locals and RDEK in what you wish for. you just may get it.

How is it you can't or don't realize the rdek directors as well as every other tourist town officials in BC were simply asking the public to follow what the health authorities were also asking. Do you really think business owners prefer to lose money? The mayor owns Home Hardware, you know how much he is losing? But yet he went on TV to ask for you to not travel.

Threatening that this will affect further tourism spending is exactly what I expected from you. There are lots of great second home owners and tourists who respect the locals and what we have, we can do without a few whiners like yourself.

Talked to buddy today who’s at his place in invermere from Calgary said quite a few Albertans out there he brought all his supplies so enjoying the weekend and not bringing any additional risk to anyone. Life goes on the sheep are all afraid of the big bad wolf but most are well aware of how overblown this all is.

Another childish post, use the computer again to read up on how many provinces, towns and officials are asking people to not travel. You seem to be focused on us in the East Koots, why is this? Jealous? Just because I posted a different point of view than you? You think your opinion is worth more than mine or the people who are making the requests? Why is that?

seeing how they want to restrict me going to my place in radium

https://nationalpost.com/news/south...ampers-cottage-owners-travelling-into-regions

seriously. to all those about to flame me, hear me out. Calgary will be deferring property tax payment in response to hardship caused by Covid 19. The city of Calgary is not responsible for the hardship, yet they are doing something to help.

If RDEK is so passionate about this suggestion, put some skin in the game. Pay back my property tax that you have/will take from me for the months you want me to stay away.

seems fair.

I, for one, have had enough Alberta bashing from some BC'ers.

PS, BC itself has more Covid cases and deaths than Alberta or Saskatchewan, yet they see the east as the threat.

This is dumb...I think your taxes are going to increase actually.
