Hey guys,

Just getting things ready for this year’s season. Been having a blast the past few years getting out and filming, I have always done short You Tube vid’s that are no longer then 15 min total…. What I want to do this year is get some feedback for you guys to hear what you guys like to see!

Is it?
Extreme hill climbs
Well thought out & artistic shots
Hardcore rock music/upbeat but little more tame then rock
Slow motion shots
Shots using jib/crane/cable cam
Point of View shots
Story line or just pure riding
Jumping with FMX style tricks
Big drops

What is it that make you go wow I want to see that again (other than good technical riding of course!) or is it that you are looking for all the above and want to keep the style changing throughout the film?

This is just an amateur with a camera that is looking for some pre season feedback…. Whatever you guys like let me know, I aim to appeal to this demographic!

Another cool idea I have had in the back of my mind is doing a “Snow & Mud” film with members featured as riders… just an idea but that would take more planning and would be for another season..

Thanks guys! Looking forward to hearing your feed back!

My humble opinion: There isn't alot out there that hasn't been done. One thing that is missing from most is the well thought out and artistic shots. Only a handful of films have them- We are Snowmobilers is one of the best. Of course, you pair this art with talented and technical riding, some great music and a few good crashes, and you've got pure gold :)

Thanks SledMamma

We are Snowmobilers does a great job with a variety of shots and great riding, I agree its prob the best in the indusrty at the moment. But to me Sled films have lacked a certain element that other action sport films have been able to achieve. for example "Thats it Thats All", "Art of Flight" or "Life Cycles" to name a few.

I guess what I wanted to know is if there is something glaring that you guys want to see that not being produced?

Being a avid watcher of all outdoor films (mountain biking, skiing, sledding, motor biking, climbing etc). I can say one thing definitively sled films have the worst music out of then all. I would like to see a little more creativity in the music selection. I turn some sled movies volume off just so I can enjoy the film.

SO TO SUM UP:
  • Creativity (something different), watch THE ART OF FLIGHT (snowboard video) Great cinematography and interesting angles, and good stories.
  • Better music
  • Crazy hill climbs!!!!
  • Bloopers
  • A feeling of more adventure in the mountains
  • And of course the occasional drunken redneck wrecking expensive stuff

I agree with you Art of Flight was unreal and it would be awesome to have some sled videos like that... also another idea, Watch some FMX videos EX) on the pipe or even some nitro circus movies The filming on those films would be unreal if they could do that in a sled video

Hill climbs are cool and fun to do but I cant bring my self to watch an hour straight of them, kinda gets boring but thats just my 2 cents... Personally i like to see big drops, tons of whips, Big Air, And tricks of course I know that doesn't really appeal to the older crowd, but hey thats why they make thunderstruck films... Technical tree ridings always good to watch to

maybe a sled adventure movie... with a story line

kind of like TGR's Deeper and Further movies..

Thinking heli'd in gas drops, sledding where noone's sledded before, adventures, technical riding to getting places noone's been. not just roopin and boondocking around trees, big whips jumps and nut shattering hill climbs.

who has the phone number for red bull's sponsorship department ?

I like watchin huge cliff drops, downhill powder descents, real techical tree riding, big natural jumps and whips. Climbing is fun but gets old to watch fast. Anyone can pinner up a hill but carving down a mountain bombin cliffs along the way is what i like to watch, especially real technical descents. Just my opinion

Well the one thing never shown the what happens when someone dose pull the crazy hill, how do they get down? what dose it take to make sure that one can do a 100ft jump? The things that one never has seen. my two cents!

better music
BOONDockers always have some of the best tunes, as well as any TS vids

Im tired of seeing:

LONG ASS pulls up chutes w 240+ HP Turbos.......for an hour straight.....bleh
Freestyle...back flips, whips and superman's are tired....YEP super hard to do....but XGames can cover that for my freestyle fix
Super AMPED up death metal...don't get me wrong, look on my itunes account and I have lots of it! But I listen to it when working out, not watching sled vids

I like seeing:

BIG SWEET POW turns
cornice and cliff drops that make you say ... "REALLY!?"...like Geoff Kyle's Part in SLDNX 10....that was STUPID
tight technical tree riding
slower (not put me to sleep slow), tunes...Example: Blackline-Wherever, Godsmack-Running Blind, Five Finger Death Punch-Far From Home, Raise Your Weapn-Deadmau5 etc.....
SledHeads did some pre and post interviews, but matched it with riding too...It takes away from the riding. Nice to have a short interview of the rider before the segment, to get an idea of who they are.
A quick note/shot on their sled - stock, MOD's done etc....

I know you shoot mostly amateur stuff, so maybe the massive cliff drops wont happen....but still ;)

look forward to some of your vids

do you have a link to your youtube account, so we can check out some of your current stuff?

I'm sure everyone has seen Fourcast before. It's a couple years old but still one of the better sled movie IMO. Great shots, angle and music.

Fourcast was done by Jorli Ricker in good ol Sea to sky. He has actually made my all time favourite bike porn to boot called Ride to the hills. Super talented film maker. Unfortunately I think he got screwed over by some distributors or some others in the industry and has kept his film making at bay. He still has some amazing segments floating around in recent films.
What I think the sled movie industry is more gangsterism...like park ski movies! I can see it now....Treadway throwing down a huge cliff into some deep pow turns to Rick Ross "hustlin" finished off with Treadway throwing down some gang signs in some tall tees and pants hanging around his knees talking about the game. Ya boi!
