They are great engines and a ton of staying power.
What you have to look out for is the stock air breather foam did not work so well and caused water/material, etc...to get on the intake side of the pistons and scuff. Lots of that on those engines so a cure for that is getting pre-filter fabric from a supplier like K&N or whoever and adding that on top of the intake box sponge. You could damn near spray water with a garden hose on that stuff with engine running and not suck in any water.
...I can't remember if it was 98 or 99 had stators that would fail, the resonating of the engine at 8200 rpms would cause the stator to fail. brp updated with a heavier material that held the stator together and they were good.
