Made the trip in to Scalp Creek a week ago, thought I would post some pictures. The trail in had a decent amount of snow on it, but once we got up to the alpine there was almost no snow. Typical conditions for the Alberta west country at this time of year though. The trail had changed somewhat since the last time I was in a couple of years ago. The trail used to follow the south bank of the Clearwater but that trail has been washed out. We had to do some route finding, and cross the Clearwater a couple of times which was interesting on sleds (open water.)

Pictures are attached...

Thanks for the update! Conditions are worse than I imagined! Still a beautiful area though :)

Thats typical Scalp Creek for this time of year. I have only made it to the bowl twice in the different trips that I have taken out there. Traditionally March to April is when they get the big dumps of snow.

So in another month or so one can expect some pretty good conditions?

A buddy and I are looking into making some trips west this year and Scalp Creek is pretty close to home. Would guys familiar with the area suggest this area to two riders new to the west country? We're experienced sledders just no seat time out there yet.

Depends on snow, no guarantees but we've rode the past few yrs in that area with nut deep snow all day long!

Awesome. We'll have to wait and see how she goes then. Hopefully it snows and snows.

Billy Boy I hope so 'cause I'm already getting withdrawals and it's not even halfway through Feb.

Oh I'm just joking too, didn't mean anything by it! I trust the forum regulars for reliable info so I wouldn't be heading too far out there unless someone said the heavens had opened up :)

Planning on Golden in a couple weeks! Pretty excited.

Hoping to head out there the first weekend of March. Going to try to confirm that tonight or tommorow with my riding buddy.

More than likely Quartz Creek as we hear it's a good "introduction" to mountain riding.
